Your Opportunity

Sr Management Energy Consultant will act as a US-based lead, key business developer, senior subject matter expert, and liaison across key internal practice groups for the Strategic Development & Implementation group (Strategy & Implementation) in delivering exceptional energy business advisory, energy policy strategy (federal and regional), regulatory strategy, investment, and compliance services to renewable energy, electrical infrastructure, and other capital and/or energy-intensive stakeholders. To achieve this the Senior Consultant will focus on electrical utilities, Independent Power Producers, governmental/legislative, institutional, energy transition funding institutions, and industrial markets, interfacing with their C-suite and senior leadership. In this capacity s/he will deliver materials supporting transactions for senior leadership and Board -level clients, deliver risk assessments, valuations on potential acquisitions or divestitures, and identify new investment opportunities and develop strategies/build business cases for executing and implementing transformational organization strategies. Staying 3-5 years ahead of what’s next for the energy transition. To facilitate that mandate, this position will also act as a key collaborator at the federal and regional energy policy level by focusing on establishing key relationships at agencies who drive utility-shaping investment policies. A critical focus of the will also be on providing technical excellence to federal agencies as well as federal account managers within Stantec in key service markets identified above. 

Your Key Responsibilities 

Work alongside the Director as well as members of the senior management team to determine and implement the strategic direction and impact of the Strategy & Implementation and overall SAS group across the US market including: 

Upstream & Implementation Advisory o Lead US efforts to develop and support traditional and non-traditional client Energy Transition strategies across utility, industrial, municipal and federal markets 
Target priority Energy Transition segments including thermal generation, CCRs, renewables, energy storage, distributed energy resources, electrification/decarbonization, demand response, and grid modernization 
Support client executive leadership in strategic planning cycles and transformational initiatives presenting insights and recommendations through rigorous and well-structured analysis 
Develop US efforts to provide technically informed services to federal and regional energy policy/regulatory agencies from a growth strategy, client-facing perspective from 
Develop US efforts to build relationships with Federal and Regional Energy labs, regional utility commissions by which to establish burgeoning technologies 3-5 (years out) capable of being incorporated into energy transition strategies for utilities or energy-intensive clients 
Cross-sell Strategy & Implementation services into Stantec’s major integrated projects functions 
Maintain current understandings of industry policy, regulatory developments across target US markets, major trends, and competitor activity with a view to ensuring that the firm’s service offerings align to current and future market needs. 
Utilize understanding of policy and regulatory environment to facilitate client exposure and opportunity identification across all 4 SAS service pillars 
Collaborate on project pursuits, execution, and closeout across all 4 SAS service pillars 
Act as account manager and/or account team member for assigned key accounts, leading and collaborating to account growth plans, including developing pull-through plans for other SAS services 
Remain informed on relevant Stantec business lines ‘current state’ to identify opportunities for collaboration and expansion strategies and alignment with Stantec’s strategic growth opportunities. 
Collaborate with Energy subject matter experts to develop deliver ‘technically informed’ advisory go-to-market offerings 
Cross-sell across Stantec’s Environmental, Water, and Infrastructure business units and key account teams to promote/sell SAS services within Stantec 
Serve as a liaison between SAS and the Nature based Solutions program to leverage industry drivers related to nature positive outcomes, with emphasis in Energy market opportunities, in alignment with the current NbS Global Collaboration structure 
Continuous refinement, evolution and delivery of SAS portfolio and value propositions in accordance with changing US energy market landscapes 
Prioritizing opportunities requiring premium-rate services with exceptional value delivery over commoditized opportunities 
Drive consistency of the SAS team’s high-value, premium client experience from initial bid to project closeout. 
Work with marketing support to develop content marketing campaigns across the SAS business. 
Serve as an ambassador for the group representing it at appropriate industry conferences, speaking engagements, and other external industry related events. 
Project Execution and Management 
Personally, pursue and serve as a project manager for projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, quality and risk in compliance with Stantec’s PM framework. 
Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider. 
Lead multi-disciplinary teams through proposals, feasibility work all the way to final designs, and construction support as required by the projects. 
Manage contract tasks, track and manage costs and schedule, and implement measures necessary to stay on schedule and within budget utilizing established project management procedures within Stantec. 
Manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
Exercise initiative in addressing problem situations and resolve most project delivery related matters. 
Lead by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including risk management, project management, and quality management. 
Provides guidance, training and mentorship for junior and intermediate advisory colleagues. 

Your Capabilities & Credentials
Advanced US energy and utility market expertise across thermal, renewable and power delivery markets with detailed understanding of how regulation and policy decisions impact strategic decisions of Stantec’s diverse energy stakeholders and clients. 
Extensive experience managing and producing critical, regulatory-grade documents and consulting services to withstand scrutiny from C-Suite/Senior Executives, Investors, and Regulatory/Agency stakeholders. 
Demonstrated ability to apply policy and regulatory impact analysis to clients operational and capital investment decisions. 
Demonstrated successful experience/knowledge in decision making, as well as assessing, evaluating and solving strategic and/or operational challenges. 
A highly intelligent, strategically minded leader with superb communication and interpersonal skills who prioritizes the development of trust and authenticity among their team. 
Highly innovative leader, with a displayed willingness to step outside of conventional approaches in pursuit of client value and service excellence. 
Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects from pursuit through closeout, involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors. 
Demonstrated experience in client service management. 
Experienced in project management, including defining and setting the direction for a team, project and change management as required. 
Collaborative, strong team orientation well-suited to leading through mandate or influence to build consensus within a global organization. 
Able to manage competing priorities in a high-paced global consultancy while maintaining exceptional value and quality. 
Experience in building and managing distributed teams of technical and business professionals. 

Education and Experience 
Minimum of 10 years of consulting or client-side experience energy industry experience, ideally with a generation and transmission utility, developer or distribution utility 
Relevant Degree in Business or Engineering, with a master’s in business or MBA being advantageous. 
Knowledge of Ecosystem services and Benefit Cost analysis preferred 
History of leading projects with a record of client satisfaction, timely delivery of work, and ability to manage budget and internal and external stakeholder requirements. 
Proven track record of regulatory and investment case support for major energy, industrial or institutional organizations.
