Troubleshoots, repairs, upgrades, and maintains traffic signal and traffic/revenue control electronic and electro-mechanical equipment. Working conditions are inside and outside with exposure to temperature variations, damp/wet surfaces, high noise areas, dust, and unfavorable fumes and vapors. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff. Work Location 6939 W. Loop 1604 N. (Northwest Service Center), San Antonio, Texas 78254 Work Hours 6:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday; Hours are subject to change and may include evening or weekend shifts. Essential Job Functions + Inspects, tests, and repairs digital, solid-state, analog microprocessor traffic/revenue control, traffic signal, alarm, and data communication systems. + Performs circuit analysis of digital and analog traffic/revenue control equipment, volume and density computers, cycle generators, display devices, coding equipment, and vehicle detectors. + Wires traffic-control cabinets which include field wiring. + Repairs broken-down signal/revenue-control equipment and prepares for servicing. + Designs and builds test equipment to perform repairs and test functions for signal/revenue control equipment, occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. + Troubleshoots, isolates, and replaces or repairs faulty unit components. + Operates electronic equipment to program various types of traffic signal controllers and traffic/revenue control equipment. + Performs preventive maintenance on electro-mechanical and electronic equipment. + Documents all work performed in the field and in the shop. + Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required Job Requirements + High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency). + Three (3) years of experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment. + Must obtain the appropriate type of Texas commercial 'CDL' or Texas operator's license within ninety (90) days of employment. The type of license required will be determined by the location and type and size of vehicle operated. Preferred Qualifications + Two (2) years of experience working with traffic signals. + Experience leading a traffic crew. + Experience working in bucket trucks. + Experience trouble shooting traffic signals. + Experience with 2070's controllers. + Knowledge of operating software's for 2070's. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. + Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Knowledge of solid-state electronics, logic gates, digital, analog timing circuits, microprocessors, oscillators, and electronic measuring and testing equipment. + Knowledge of electronic troubleshooting practices and techniques. + Knowledge of Alternating Current/Direct Current (AC/DC) theory. + Knowledge of programming, traffic phasing, and timing. + Knowledge of hazards and safety measures as they relate to electronics and the electrical trade. + Skill in utilizing electronic measuring equipment, including an oscilloscope, frequency counter, digital voltmeter, volt ohm meter, amp probe meter, cable, and conduit locator, 'NEMA' and '170' controller testers, wire insulation tester, and loop detector tester. + Skill in utilizing power hand tools. + Skill in the operation of small and large 'Hi-ranger' bucket trucks. + Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
