The Computing Services central IT department collaborates closely with the University Communications and Marketing team to provide robust Content Management Systems (CMS) that power CMU’s digital presence. We are now seeking an experienced Developer to join our expanding Content Management Systems team, with a specific emphasis on the Drupal and Cascade CMS. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills and a collaborative mindset to consistently deliver high-quality solutions to our campus partners.
As a Senior Drupal/CMS Specialist within the CMS Development & Support team, you will operate within an agile development framework, spearheading the design and implementation of new features and functionalities. Moreover, you will play a pivotal role in leading various technical aspects of the CMS, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance. Collaboration with campus partners is essential to design solutions that elevate CMU’s digital outreach systems to new heights. Additionally, you may be tasked with mentoring junior web developers and overseeing large-scale department projects requiring expertise in complex programming languages.

Your core responsibilities will include:
Drupal Development & Customization:
Lead the design, development, and customization of Drupal-based websites and applications. Create and modify Drupal modules, themes, and templates to meet specific business requirements.
CMS Architecture & Strategy:
Project Management:
Oversee the full project lifecycle, including planning, execution, testing, and deployment. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business goals.Team Leadership & Mentorship:
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and team members. Foster a collaborative environment and promote knowledge sharing across the team.Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with stakeholders, including marketing, content, and IT teams, to gather requirements, provide technical solutions, and ensure the CMS aligns with organizational objectives.Continuous Improvement:
Stay current with industry trends and best practices in Drupal and CMS development. Continuously seek opportunities to enhance system performance, user experience, and operational efficiency.Technical Documentation:
Maintain comprehensive documentation of the CMS architecture, configurations, custom modules, and development processes.Desired Experience:
Proficiency in PHP and content management systems, particularly Drupal and Cascade CMS.
Proficiency in Drupal 8/9/10 development, including module and theme development.
Strong understanding of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web development frameworks.
Experience with MySQL, version control systems (Git), and web server environments.
Familiarity with front-end technologies and frameworks (e.g., Twig, React, Angular) is a plus.
Knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 6-7 years of experience in Drupal development and CMS management, with a strong portfolio of successfully delivered projects.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Drupal 8/9/10 development, including module and theme development.
Strong understanding of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web development frameworks.
Experience with MySQL, version control systems (Git), and web server environments.
Familiarity with front-end technologies and frameworks (e.g., Twig, React, Angular) is a plus.
Knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices.
Project Management:
Experience managing projects using Agile or similar methodologies. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Requirement:

Willingness to travel to on- and off-campus locations as required, with the possibility of evening and weekend work.
