Telecommuting: Telecommuting may be permitted, so long as the employee is based in the San

Francisco, CA region, as the employee must conduct regular visits to client sites in the San Francisco, CA region.

 

Travel:            Approximately 30% of time will be spent on travel. 25% domestic; 5% international

 

Responsibilities:

 

Specific duties will include:

 

Demonstrate consultancy with a high-level expertise in Downstream processing customer needs and related products;Collaborate seamlessly with sales teams to prospect, qualify, pursue, propose, negotiate, and close customer opportunities, as needed and with focus on larger, complex opportunities;Drive the commercial teams to identify and nurture opportunities for Competitive Conversion (CoCo), New Product Introductions (NPI), Product Adoption (PA) and Application Based Solutions (ABS);Maintain technical excellence in Downstream and complementary product portfolios. Participate in and contribute to upskilling activities such as Seminar Series and other Technology Team Programs;Use your understanding of customers, current biopharmaceutical industry drivers and trends, together with an appreciation of competition dynamics to effectively identify strategic opportunities to gain market share and grow the business;Present Merck expertise to technical audiences at all levels (manufacturing floor to C-suite) through both face-to-face and virtual interactions;Collaborate with client process development groups and identify opportunities for regional technical collaborations with the support of the internal organization; andBuild relationships and networks with industry decision makers and opinion leaders to maintain and grow Merck's Downstream market and mind share.

 

Requirements & Qualifications:

 

Employer requires candidate to have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or another Life Science field and five (5) years of progressively more responsible work experience as a scientist or closely related occupation in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Alternatively, employer will accept a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or another Life Science field and three (3) years of work experience as a scientist or closely

related occupation in the biopharmaceutical industry.

 

Candidate must also have the following:

 

Demonstrated working knowledge of the biopharmaceutical downstream process, including sterile filtration, depth filtration, virus filtration, tangential flow filtration, and chromatography gained through three (3) years of work experience;Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of relevant industry techniques in the clarification and tangential flow filtration (TFF) unit operations gained through three (3) years of work experience;Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively to diverse audiences in the biopharmaceutical industry through both written and oral communications gained through three (3) years of work experience;Demonstrated knowledge of marketing or sales in a commercial, customer-facing role within the biopharmaceutical industry gained through three (3) years of work experience; andDemonstrated knowledge of downstream biopharmaceutical applications within common market modalities, including antibodies, recombinant proteins, vaccines, and cell and gene therapies, gained through three (3) years of work experience.

 

All years of experience may be gained concurrently.
