Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The SDHR at the Merrimack Valley YMCA stewards the Y’s cause, leads our HR initiatives under the direction of the Chief Human Resources Officer, focusing on recruitment, onboarding, training and development, and must be committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. The SDHR will be responsible for performing analytical and administrative work for daily human resources activities, disseminating pertinent information related to HR activities, serving as a subject matter expert for HR related questions, and assuring training and compliance requirements are met and tracked for employees.

This role will oversee the recruitment and onboarding processes, as well as the training and development programs that support employee growth and engagement. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in HR leadership, a deep understanding of talent management, and a passion for creating a positive workplace culture.  

Qualifications

•       Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred.

•       At least 5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

•       Proven experience in recruitment, onboarding, training, and employee development.

•       Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.

•       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

•       Strategic thinker with a results-oriented approach to problem-solving.

•       Expert in technology and HRIS

•       Extensive knowledge of applicable state/federal employment laws,  

•       Ability to establish credibility, build relationships  

•       High level of initiative with the ability to organize and prioritize work and willingness to adapt to changing priorities.

•       Effective project and time management skills.

Essential Functions

Human Resources Administration: 

•       Point person for HR and benefit inquiries, wage verifications, DUA reporting 

•       Responsible for management of the HRIS, provides guidance and support to employees on system 

•       Develop and deliver employee newsletter. 

•       Assist and at times oversee special HR projects 

•       Collaborate with Finance/Payroll to ensure compliance and efficient execution of benefits and pay. 

•       Tracking of completion of annual performance reviews. 

•       Conduct criminal background screening as required by CAP Policy and at hire. 

Recruitment and Onboarding: 

•       Design and implement an effective onboarding program to ensure new hires are integrated smoothly into the organization.

•       Responsible for full life cycle recruitment process for association.

•       Assure proper screening and background checks are completed.

•       Track compliance of hiring onboarding: references, background checks, training, hiring checklists.

Training and Development: 

•       Collaborate with CHRO to create and manage comprehensive training and development programs that enhance employee skills and support career advancement.

•       Assess training needs through surveys, interviews, and performance evaluations.

•       Foster a culture of continuous learning and development, ensuring employees have access to the resources they need to succeed.

•       Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make improvements as necessary.

•       Conduct and track NEO and CAP training.

Benefit Administration: 

•       Partner with CHRO to develop comprehensive employee benefits that align with business objectives.

•       Plan and administer effective open enrollment process.

•       Stay current with HR best practices, employment laws, and industry trends to ensure compliance and competitiveness.

•       Consult with Employees to ensure they understand benefits and troubleshoot potential issues.

Employee Engagement and Culture:  Promote a positive workplace culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.

•       Develop and implement employee engagement initiatives to enhance retention and job satisfaction.

•       Conduct regular employee feedback sessions and surveys to gauge morale and identify areas for improvement.

•       Assist Program Directors with employee relations and conflict management.
