Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._ **Responsibilities:** GENERAL PURPOSE: The Senior Director of Finance is a senior level position at the Eastman School of Music, reporting to the Dean. The Senior Director is a member of the of the dean’s leadership team at Eastman, as well as part of the team of academic finance officers that work in coordination with the Provost Office for Academic Budget Operations at the University of Rochester. The Senior Director of Finance will be responsible for financial planning, reporting and management to play a key role in achieving the goals of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester. With executive and policy guidance, serves as a senior officer and strategic partner to the dean, and represents the dean on committees/ projects/policy development initiatives and interfaces with faculty and staff on budgetary and financial topics and initiatives. Provides general direction and leadership for numerous and varying projects necessary to the mission of the school. On financial matters, the Senior Director of Finance collaborates with staff leadership at the Eastman School of Music, the Provost Office for Academic Budget Operations, and officers throughout the University, on interpreting and applying University and School policies and practices and setting and accomplishing University and School goals. **Develops, prepares, and submits for approval the annual operating (~$60M and capital budgets for all academic and administrative areas of the Eastman School of Music.** + Collaborates with administrative leadership, University colleagues, faculty and administrative staff (approximately 20 departments and programs) in understanding department and program needs, mandates, and plans; financial resources; and budget requirements. + Provides interpretation and guidance on use of restricted endowments, gifts, operating funds, and grants. + Coordinates systems detail for reporting and presentation of annual Eastman budget. **Faculty Specific Activities:** + Coordinate the review and administration of startup and research resources for eligible faculty. + New faculty are provided startup dollars, which are established and monitored through the initial appointment period. + Manage the review and approval of annual additions and carryover of Eastman faculty. + Compute and reconcile the annual academic year salary recovery where applicable for Eastman faculty and apply additions to their grants. + Provide situation assistance and guidance on policies and procedures + Coordination of the Non-Tenure track portion of the budget in conjunction with Deans, Academic planning, and Department Faculty. + Where applicable, provide pre and post award grant management to faculty and administrators, (a) to shape reasonable budget proposals and (b) provide post award reviews, projections and analyses. **Strategic Financial Management** + Continually monitors and reports on the status of the operating and capital budgets, and grants; prepares monthly and quarterly forecasts of financial performance; develops strategies and tactics to ensure adherence to financial targets. + Identifies problems and issues that adversely impact the achievement of the school’s long-term financial goals; develops solutions to remedy the financial impact of those problems and issues. + Brings intractable situations to the attention of the dean and actively participates with them to develop strategies and tactics that will overcome those problems and issues. + Collaborates with the Sr. Associate Provost and other officers in the Academic Services Division to share data and information that might have an impact on financial plans and operations of other academic units. + Review and Approve UR Financials Transactions as the Company Manager **For Procurement:** + Review Supplier Invoice Request and Purchase Orders based on established thresholds and/or in absence of cost center managers. **For Financials:** + Review and approve expense reports on behalf of the Dean for Chairs and Directors. + Review Journal Entries based on established thresholds and/or in absence of cost center managers. + Review Requests for New Accounts (FAOs), Changes to FAOs, Inactivation of FAOs + In General: Review Security Requests to validate the requested roles for Procurement and Financials are appropriate and understood. Provide Finance guidance and training where applicable to Eastman personnel as needed and warranted. + Ensures that financial resources are in alignment with operating and programmatic needs and provides sufficient support to achieve plans and goals. + Ensures compliance with applicable university operating and budget management policies, including grant management, FAO reconciliations, and other audit policies. + Collaborates with Eastman Leadership and University colleagues to develop and prioritize short-term and long-term goals, plans and tactics for meeting the academic mission; identify and encumber financial resources that will ensure successful outcomes; meld implementation into the operating, capital and endowment budgets; identify and address situations that present obstacles to successful outcomes. + Oversees development, preparation and approval of multi-year planning models that depict all aspects of Eastman’s long-term financial outlook.
