Senior Director, Divisional Merchandise Manager

 

Overview of Position

The Senior Director, Divisional Merchandise Manager is responsible for the collaborative development and execution of the Merchandise Department strategy to achieve and be accountable for sales, margin and inventory objectives.  This position leads Buying teams while partnering with the Chief Merchandising Officer and appropriate departments throughout the company to develop and optimize the assortments, analyze business performance, collaborate on visual merchandising and marketing objectives, and support in managing key vendor partnerships.  This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Financial accountability including P&L management, open to buy, inventory, and margins.  Key metrics include: sales, turn, and gross marginProvides leadership within the Merchandising Team and expanded influence with other pivotal groups including:  visual, marketing, E-commerce, and supply chainSets strategic direction (in close collaboration with the Buyer) for product assortment, visual layout of departments, and product development Executes and drives speed to market with new product introductionsCollaborates with the VP of Planning and Allocation to develop department sales and inventory plans Identifies new product/category opportunities and space allocation in-store to support TCS' vision as directed by the Chief Merchandising OfficerEvaluates and anticipates market trends in collaboration with Chief Merchandising OfficerCollaborates with the VP of Visual Merchandising to propose merchandising ideas for the respective departmentsCollaborates with the Director of Pricing to determine competitive position of productsSupports the Buying teams with key vendor relationships, on cost management and with vendor negotiationsAssist in the hiring, development and management of the Buying teams by division Hosts effective team meetings to ensure cohesive communication regarding company informationCollaborates with Senior Director of Product Development on defining and managing the product pipeline as well as setting guardrails for private label product development and line plans.Acts as the liaison to Supply Chain to ensure Buying teams receive training and resources needed to complete their daily tasks Consistently arrives promptly to work the assigned scheduleResponsible for maintaining discretion related to all confidential/sensitive company and customer informationPerforms other requested tasks and duties

 

Experience and Skills Required

 

College degree and/or MBA10+ years retail buying experienceEcommerce experience that includes:  assortment, go to market abilities, strong IT understanding, and vendor relationships.Global sourcing experience highly preferred with emphasis on AsiaProduct development experience highly preferred.Understanding of profit, sales dollars, margin dollars, inventory productivity, forecast accuracy, trendsBased in Dallas/Ft. Worth areaAbility to travel 15% a year, based on the business needsStrong computer skills:  proficiency in Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and knowledge of ExcelAbility to assimilate and analyze information and develop strategic plan of actionComprehension of merchandising terminology, functions and analysis Experience managing others including career development, directing and evaluating workKnowledge of industry business and passion for following trends in the industry
