About the department
You will join the Rare Disease Business Unit at Novo Nordisk Japan. Our team is dedicated to maximizing the value of our RareD asset portfolio across Rare Endocrine Disorders (RED) and Rare Blood Disorder (RBD) therapeutic areas (TAs). We are a dynamic and collaborative team, working together to deliver on our financial goals and make a difference in the lives of patients. The role will report directly to Vice President, Rare Disease Business Unit, Japan.

 

The position
The Senior Director, Head of RareD Marketing, leads the RareD asset portfolio across RED and RBD. This role oversees marketing strategies to meet financial goals, coaches’ direct reports, and serves as a member of the Rare Disease Leadership Team (RareD LT).

Lead the Marketing function by setting a clear vision, inspiring the team to achieve ambitious goals, enhancing capabilities across RED and RBD brand teams, and defining strategic directions for brand planning, sales cycles, forecasting, and cross-TA processes. Oversee cross-functional strategy development across TAs by guiding RED and RBD teams to create clear, insight-driven strategies for in-line brands, addressing market needs, achieving financial goals, and leading lifecycle management and pipeline asset strategy planning across TAs and new disease areas. Oversee tactical marketing execution across TAs by guiding team members to maximize the impact of marketing plans, facilitating cross-TA sharing of best practices to enhance effectiveness, and managing the overall marketing budget across cost centers. Represent NNPL (Japan) and participate in global governance forums by chairing the NNPL Brand Team to align on strategy, serving as a member of the Global Core Commercial Team (CCT) and/or Core Brand Team (CBT) to shape global strategy, and providing timely input in additional local and global forums for maximum impact. Provide ongoing coaching and development to direct reports, ensuring effective team operations and goal delivery, support long-term growth through development discussions, and collaborate with RareD LT for talent management and succession planning. Actively participate in RareD-wide discussions, contribute with an enterprise mindset beyond own function, and proactively identify and engage in opportunities to enhance the RareD organization.

 

Qualifications

At least 10 years of progressive marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 5 years in people management. Experience managing multiple brands and leading overall therapeutic area strategy, including both in-line brands and pipeline assets. Deep, end-to-end expertise in marketing, from analysis and insights to strategy development and tactical execution, with proven success in rare disease commercialization. Broad and balanced commercial experience, including field sales and additional areas such as new product planning, commercial operations, and market research. Growth and learning mindset with enterprise leadership capabilities, and a successful track record leading product launches in rare disease space. Bachelor’s degree in science, business, or a relevant field, fluency in both English and Japanese, with an advanced degree (e.g., MBA) and additional global or ex-Japan commercial experience preferred.
