Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?As part of the Travelers Investigative Services (TIS) Data & Analytics team, this role contributes to our industry-leading efforts in detecting and deterring fraudulent claims. Leveraging some of the most advanced technologies available, our team of experts identifies and mitigates potential risks to maintain the integrity of insurance processes.

The Data & Analytics team is at the forefront of integrating new data, technology, insights, and methodologies to continually enhance our analytical capabilities being leveraged by TIS. By adapting to evolving fraud tactics, we aim to refine our strategies through enhanced cross-enterprise collaboration, thus driving better-informed business decisions.

As a Senior Director of Decision Science, you will lead a dynamic and skilled team tasked with optimizing the effectiveness of our fraud investigative operations. Your role involves applying advanced data analysis, statistical principles, and inferential techniques to generate actionable insights that influence strategic business decisions. In essence, you provide the analytical foundation that helps decipher complex trends and data underlying our business operations.

In this pivotal role, you will also spearhead initiatives to broaden the application of data analytics in fraud prevention. Responsibilities include assessing our fraud exposure, evaluating the financial impact of fraud on loss payouts, and refining our statistical approaches to enhance operational efficiency. Your expertise will further extend to leveraging both industry and third-party data to support staffing decisions and the development of other crucial operational metrics and benchmarks.

This position will lead a team and also be involved in individual technical responsibilities.What Will You Do?Direct and coach the team in determining and using appropriate techniques that may include diagnostic analysis, active monitoring and/or multivariate modeling methods that can be used to influence strategic business decisions by balancing constraints and opportunities.Be a mentor or resource for less experienced analytic talent, onboard new employees and interns, and provide support for recruiting and talent assessment efforts.Promote the exploration and implementation of new data and analytic tools, techniques and industry best practices to apply to business problems.Interpret and synthesize findings across multiple analyses and influence optimal business action by balancing business constraints, analytical findings, and business impact.Build organizational partnerships across lines and functional teams to define and inform key strategic decisions.Ensure sound data strategy, quality, and coding best practices and bring recommendations and suggestions for improvements to supporting areas.Perform other duties as assigned. What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?Strong knowledge in SQL, Snowflake, Python or R.Strong BI tool experience (Qlik, Tableau, MicroStrategy, etc.) with deep knowledge of building dashboards.Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM related field, or a Business School Master’s Degree with a concentration in a technical or analytical field.Eight years of related data and analytic experience.Experience using explanatory, diagnostic, and inferential techniques such as experimental design, hypothesis testing, clustering analysis, time series and other statistical modeling algorithms with the ability to decide the appropriate methodology for the purpose.Experience working on large-scale multidimensional data using advanced knowledge of open-source cloud-enabled analytical programming languages.Advanced project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and follow through to ensure timely completion.Strategic thinker with the ability to use sound judgement to resolve issues as they arise.Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact and translate analyses and methodology and influence at all levels of the organization.Proactively build and own professional business relationships across the Enterprise.

What is a Must Have?Bachelor’s degree or six years of experience in data, analytics, engineering, science, technical analytical fields or relevant experience.
