Senior Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to create, modify, and analyze the design of equipment, systems, or installations, including specifications for manufacturing, fabrication, or construction. Each day, you will optimize designs to meet updated standards and incorporate new products, components, and functionalities. You will also showcase your expertise by applying design thinking or design for excellence concepts in projects.The work model for the role is Office based This role is contributing to the Electrification Business in LongmeadowYou will be mainly accountable for:Creates / reviews complete project documentation for conformity, safety, and quality assurance.Reviews, adjust design as necessary based on output of design to meet the contractual obligations.Optimizes designs to ensure compliance to updated IEC and SANS standards, incorporating new products, components, and functionalities.Support technology transfers for new portfolio within the 3 product groups (PAIS, P & SGIS and S&P).Develop improvement in processes and design based on analyzing all RCA’s per quarter.Lean design the basis of engineering operations.Seeks feedback from customer to drive and deliver improvement of technical solutions.Contributes to preparation of specific aspects of design assignments to meet the contractual obligations while adhering to relevant standards, safety, and quality.Technical leadership and knowledge sharingApplies Advance Design Thinking / Design for Excellence concepts in projects.Performs Project Peer-Reviews utilizes checklists to perform design verification according to applicable standards and engineering guidelines.Actively contributes and shares experiences in workshops pertaining to engineering design, tools and processes.Shares best practices Lessons-Learned documentation across different projects.Creates / reviews standard processes and tools to promote the reuse of technical solutions innovation and productivity in the team.Ensures design tools (EPLAN P8) usage to promote innovation and productivity.Conduct and complete RCA reports on electrical design issues or customer CCRP’s. You will be required from time to time to go to site to do the investigations.Risk and opportunity managementAssesses and addresses technical risk and opportunities with Tendering and PM.Reports and conduct / safety / quality / program / cost issues to Project Manager along with recommendations, for resolution.Ensures Bill of Material (BOM) for the project meets contractual obligations; and project gross margin requirements by not generating Project Left-Over Material (PLOM).Conduct RCA if there is PLOM.Design Change are captured and approval given before implantation.Identifies and implements variation requests to support contract claims based on the approval from Project Manager.Create work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects in consultation with respective project mangers and ensures quality deliverables on time at target cost.Assist planning during unavailable time to update planning schedule, follow up with suppliers and buyers on material ordered.Release projects to production after confirmation that 95% of material is available.Prepares RFQ’s to meet contractual requirements and provides technical evaluation of supplier proposals.Collaborates with the Supply Chain function and the Project Managers.Together with supply chain lead cost savings projects.Coordinates with Manufacturing and Testing function to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured / staged and tested.Ensures the engineering deliverables as built are updated.Ensures all design process documentation is complete during the manufacturing stage and after completion.Responsible to ensure all internal testing are completed and functional before product is released from factory.As responsible person (ECSA) registered you need to sign of the design and completion of all testing.Coordinates with Commissioning / Service functions to ensure the designs are appropriately installed and commissioned (if applicable as part of the contract).Ensures the engineering deliverables are updated post installation and commissioningYou will join a high performing team, where you will be able to thrive.

Qualifications for the role

Must have a Degree in Electrical Engineering Heavy current. Switchgear design background. Strong E-Plan background, strong technical ability and engineering principals. ECSA registered will be advantageous. SAP knowledge, create accurate BOM's Preference will be given to employment equity candidates.
