Senior Design Team Lead

As a Senior Design Team Lead, you will play a pivotal role within the product development team, collaborating closely with various Engineering departments, including the Test Lab, Manufacturing, and Product Management, to develop competitive designs for Trane Commercial HVAC equipment. Your primary responsibility will be to lead an engineering team focused on creating next-generation, market-leading chiller platforms. Success in this role will be measured by your ability to effectively coordinate with diverse teams and deliver market-leading HVAC solutions. Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

Work closely with stakeholders across Sales, Marketing, Product Engineering, Product Management, Operations, and Service to deliver innovative chiller products into production. Plan and direct the efforts of Engineering and Design teams to meet performance, reliability, quality. Demonstrate responsiveness to the customer (internal & external) and be quality-minded in performance of all duties. Apply interdisciplinary engineering expertise to solve system design and product application problems. Mentor & coach Engineering team members with a passion for personal development. Manage team member assignments to support product development strategy. Achieve schedule, cost, and quality goals as committed to in project plan. Ensure change management processes are utilized effectively to ensure customer satisfaction and scope/risk management. Develop and deliver technical progress reports to leadership team. Some overnight travel (less than 10%). 


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 10 years of engineering work experience is required. Master’s Degree in Engineering is a plus. Experience with HVAC/R systems is a plus. Project Management Institute (PMI) certification is a plus. 


Key Competencies:

Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and project management skills. Experience in product development processes. Exceptional verbal communications skills and good technical writing and documentation skills. Demonstrate consistently high leadership qualities, including the ability to influence and gain acceptance from members of cross-functional teams without direct authority, to deliver business results. Prefer experience with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC). Passion for continuous learning and willingness to adapt to changing environments. Understanding of HVAC components and system functions including refrigeration, heat transfer, airflow and ventilation. Must be a self-starter with a high energy level and a high commitment to career. Must have the ability to quickly and efficiently understand, condense, and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions. Able to function and take on a leadership role in a cross-functional, global design engineering team environment which requires interaction with design teams, engineering teams, manufacturing and operations staff relative to project requirements, both inside and outside the company. Experience in managing departments, supervising and developing people. 


Annual Compensation Range is $75,000 to $144,000 annually.  Disclaimer:  This salary range is based on US national averages.  Actual pay could be a result of seniority/experience level, merit and geographic location where the actual work is performed.
