The Senior Manager, Development Design Standards – Europe is responsible for leading and managing the European Design standards in close collaboration and alignment with US and European stakeholders. The Senior Design Standards Manager will interact daily with Design Managers, external consultants, Facilities Operations, Technical Operations, Contractors, Designers, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, and OFCI Vendors and should have both written and oral communication skills commensurate with this level of regular communication.
RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned.
Lead a team to manage Design Standards and maintain updated budgets, schedules, and status reports for each standards category.
Create and communicate design standards updates on development program & project status monthly suitable for executive level reviews. Effectively present information in a manner to support efficient decision making.
Work with QTS stakeholders, design, and construction teams to create a master development design standards programme.
Support the writing of scopes of work for design, construction, commissioning services & participate in procurement and project cost estimates.
Work closely with strategic procurement team on equipment procurement and delivery process.
Establish and maintain relationships serving as liaison with key QTS stakeholders both in Europe and the US.
Create & build relationships that enhance QTS’s ability to be a leader in creating the World’s Most Valuable Data Center Real Estate
Work with the internal development team to enhance design management processes and protocols.
Manages all technical expertise and standardisation related activities and associated resource to ensure that new-build data centre standards documentation is available for use for external design teams to follow.
Defined and maintain / update European Freedom standards and other Development standards.
Ensuring all designs in the European project portfolio are in line with European Freedom standards and ensure any project deviations have senior leadership sign off.
Provides oversight and assurance with development of specifications for OFCI equipment procurement.
Leads design standardisation and modular construction optimisation efforts for Europe in collaboration and coordination with other stakeholders within the company.
Support the creation of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) product development programs.
Manges the feedback loop from the Operations teams
Initiates and chairs the monthly European Design Standards Meetings.
Manages the effective storage and dissemination of standards information through judicious use of on-line information storage and collaboration tools.
Populate and maintains the full library of all standards and policies.
Ensures continuous alignment of European project design development to US standards and can manage and communicate any local deviations from standards due to code or specific site requirements.
Ensure alignment of the European policies, guidelines, and compliance programs with those at the corporate/enterprise level.
Regularly coordinate activities with counterparts in the United States of America.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering or equivalent professional experience
Ten or more years of professional experience in data center design, procurement and construction practices and procedures
2-3 years minimum experience on Design management or design standards management
Be able to travel up to 25% of the time.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ideally Chartered or professional qualifications such as RIBA, RICS or Civil; Structural; Electrical; Mechanical; engineering disciplines
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Experience with Bluebeam, Revit, BIM 360, ACC, Microsoft Office suite, specifically PowerPoint for use in communicating program updates to executive level, and Excel to create and maintain site program & individual project budgets.
Experience with delivery of mission critical data center facilities.
Experience with management of MEP trades
