Key Responsibilities:
Review and assess underwriting opportunities, including recommendations for accepting/declining risks and premium pricing, including:
Single-risk situations - assess borrower's financial condition, country economic and political environment, and ability/willingness to repay.
Multi-risk situations - develop policies of annual first-loss deductibles, insured's delegated discretionary credit authority, and apply advanced pricing techniques to insure a multi-faceted international portfolio of trade receivables.
Complete required underwriting analyses.
Develop and supplement relationships with designated insurance brokers.
Create memoranda describing the underwriting/pricing rationale for sign-off by for all bound risks and certain recommendations.
Create and maintain all documentation.
Work with Senior Management to resolve matters with insurance brokers and policyholders with respect to adjustment of claims, opportunities and policies, including submissions to amend or expand a policy, general questions, and nonpayment problems.
Approve or deny within given authority.
Serve as a resource to other departmental staff with regards to underwriting procedures and other departmental guidelines.
About You: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or finance, related field or equivalent education/experience5 years of underwriting experience in specialty or related area that includes a strong working knowledge of state laws
Proficiency in basic financial analysis as it pertains to the commercial credit environment
Excellent communications skills
Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
Familiarity with research tools such as Bloomberg and Factiva
Preferred
Studies toward attaining:
Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU),
Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU)
Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC)
Or equivalent insurance designation depending on specialty area
Preferred: state specific insurance license depending on specialty area
Additional Certifications that are a plus:Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)
Manufacturing Risk Insurance Specialist (MRIS)
Associate in Surplus Line Insurance (ASLI)
Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU)
Associate in Insurance (AINS) or equivalent insurance designation.
“For candidates working in person in New York City or Melville, NY, the reasonable pay range for this specific position is $127,000 to $171,800.
