Senior Counsel, China – Shanghai

Pentair is seeking a Senior Counsel to join our legal team in Shanghai.  This position will support Pentair’s business unit in China, including providing support for legal and compliance initiatives as a member of the legal team.  The position will report to Pentair’s Associate General Counsel, Water Solutions.  Interested candidates, who meet the requirements below, are encouraged to apply today!  

You will:

Provide the full scope of direct legal support to Pentair’s business in China, which includes advising on the areas of commercial and manufacturing related transactions, marketing, risk and safety, anti-trust, and real estateProvide advice and counsel to sales and procurement teams, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements, as well as leading a team with respect to legal and compliance issuesDraft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements with customers, vendors and product dealers and distributorsServe as an accountable, strategic business partner to regional P&L leaders, providing actionable advice that can be swiftly incorporated into risk-based, commercial decisionsProvide training to company business partners on various contracting, risk management, legal, and compliance topicsPerform special projects and support continuous improvement of standard work, knowledge management and processesSupport policy and process coordination among varied constituenciesManage governmental or quasi-governmental inquiries (environmental, safety, customs or otherwise) as neededWhere outside expertise is appropriate, effectively manage the work and expense of external law firmsOther duties as assigned

Key Qualifications: 

LL.B. from leading university in ChinaLL.M or JD from accredited United States law school is a plusFluency in English and Mandarin (both written and spoken)A minimum of 7-10 years of legal experience desiredIn-house legal experience is a plusExperience working for U.S.-based multinational corporation is a plusExperience drafting and negotiating complex contractsExperience effectively managing commercial transactions and dealsResults oriented, displays sound judgment and ability to balance business considerations and gets results while maintaining effective business relationships with varied constituenciesAbility to provide excellent, timely customer service in a fast-paced and quickly evolving business environment. Enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar and tasks and projectsQuick learner who can handle multiple projects simultaneously and work well both independently and as member of a teamDemonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Is able to communicate clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and stylesHigh degree of discretion and judgment; absolute confidentiality and integrityUnderstands how to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines. Proactive and reliableInternational law experience is a plus
