Senior Compliance Analyst

The University of Virginia has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Compliance Analyst in the Office of the AVP for Finance and University Controller.  Reporting to the Director of Financial Compliance, this position will support the administration of UVA fiscal compliance program and oversee the day-to-day of the University’s Agency Risk Management and Internal Control Standards (ARMICs) process regarding controls and compliance.   

 

The Senior Compliance Analyst will coordinate and interact with key stakeholders, including state agencies, central administrative areas, and various constituents across the University. This position also involves engagement with other related entities to ensure comprehensive compliance and risk manager practices are upheld.

The senior compliance analyst will possess excellent communication skills, can handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and collaborate effectively with various teams. Responsibilities: 

Support Continuous Improvement: Assist in the on-going and comprehensive evaluation of business processes and key internal accounting controls related to the university's fiscal activities.  Aim to enhance the overall compliance program through continuous improvement.  

Process and Control Analysis: Analyze workflow for opportunities to improve process and controls.  Recommend enhancements as needed and monitor the implementation of corrective action plans to address identified issues, ensuring successful outcomes. 

Data Collection and Reporting: Collect, analyze and present data to support the University's ARMICS (Agency Risk Management and Internal Control Standards) reporting requirements, including risk assessments and business process analysis. Sumit the Annual ARMICS attestation, ensuring that UVA meets the minimum internal control requirements to provide reasonable assurance of fiscal accountability, the integrity of financial reporting, and safeguarding of the assets, as required by the Commonwealth.  

Compliance Work Plan Execution: Assist in preparing and executing the annual financial compliance work plan, developed based on conducted risk assessments. Conduct policy, procedure, and transactional reviews, as assigned by the annual review plan or as needed to ensure internal controls effectiveness. 

Stakeholder Engagement:  Cultivate strong relationships with campus compliance owners and engage with other functions across the enterprise such as risk, finance, information technology, and security, to facilitate effective compliance monitoring. 

Audit Coordination: Provide coordination in addressing University findings identified through scheduled internal and external financial audits, ensuring timely and effective resolution. 

Outreach and Training: Work with the Director of Financial Compliance to identify opportunities for enhanced outreach or training activities. Coordinate University-wide compliance training programs across grounds to ensure a comprehensive understanding of compliance requirements.  

Risk and Best Practices Assessment: Assist the Director of Financial Compliance in reviewing emerging risks and program best practices. Assess identified concerns through data collection and interpretation. 

Additional Duties: Perform other duties as directed by Director of Financial Compliance to support the University’s finance compliance objectives.  

 

Qualifications:

 

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, CPA is desirable.  

 
Experience: Four years of relevant experience in public accounting and/or audit, accounting, or related work in support of Finance compliance objectives.  

Anticipated Hiring Range: $85,000 to $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and budgetary factors with UVA benefits.

Licensure: Subject matter licensure may be required.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
