Senior Business Development Manager

Function and Job Scope:

Chanel Fragrance & Beauty Products Division has grown tremendously in the past few years. In the beauty market, our distribution network is highly selective in order to target the right clientele in the beauty destinations of each of the ~80 cities we are present. This means our Business Development team plays a critical role in assessing the quality of new projects in line with the brand criteria for the sustained brand growth and driving the overall distribution strategy.

To continue to engage with wider Chinese consumers and to recruit, FBP continues to expand in footprint in both Standalone Boutique as well as Department Store channels in China domestic market, as the in-store service is paramount to building the brand desirability.

The mission of the National BD manager is to define, rationalize and implement the distribution strategy nationally, with the help of various other internal departments, in particular Real Estate teams when it comes to Standalone Boutiques. As for the channels of Dept store and Domestic Airports, the Business Development team is directly accountable of negotiating location & terms in all the key stages of the store’s life-cyle.

Key responsibilities

Owner of the China Distribution strategy

Be able to assess new project (presented by Real Estate team) with fact-based critical thinking and drive constructive collective debate on the value adds of new projects into our distribution portfolioIdentify with methodology and consistency where renovations / expansions should take placeBuild the distribution strategy of China Local market every year, for the next 3 to 5 years: the plan should be supported by facts and built on insights from internal performance, as well as external dynamics, projective trends and understanding of fast-changing consumer shopping behaviorsExplain to and align this distribution plan with internal stakeholders, as well as top managementPlan and adapt with agility, to shift resources on newly emerged pilots / projects whenever needed, while still being the gatekeeper of the overall strategyGather actionable and relevant BD intelligence from the market to fuel and solidify internal planning

Owner of the full life-cycle of Dept store & Domestic Airport Channels from a commercial point of view

Lead negotiations with Dept Stores and Domestic airports in all openings terms, location choices, renovation terms, cabin addition, temp stores and in rarer cases, closures, payment delays, compliance issues etc.As the official channel of communication between brands and DS landlords / operator, uphold the highest standards in full respect of brand guidelines, priorities and posture in all interactions with external partiesBuild and maintain trusting and long-term relationship with all external stakeholders, be proficient in convincing landlords / operators to comply with brand’s guidelines in terms of image and operationsContinuously create ways to improve store profitability through terms negotiation to maximize brands’ interestsMaintain and be the guardian of all the bonding contracts related to above 2 channels, work closely with Legal team to update them whenever necessary.

Implement the changes in distribution footprint: openings & closures

Plan, communicate and lead the coordination across various internal functions (Retail, Project, VM, Legal …) in all projects related to business development, especially in stores openings & closures to ensure the overall business timeline is respected

Lead the FBP Business Development team

Qualifications

Proficiency in spoken and written Mandarin is a must.Fluency in spoken and written EnglishMinimum 15+ years of working experience in BD. Background from Luxury / Beauty industries is highly preferred.Passionate about beauty industry, curious and attentive to the latest industry’s news and trendsFamiliar with Excel and Powerpoint presentation
