AB CarVal’s Energy Transition business invests via debt and equity across power and utility projects, resilient energy networks, clean transportation, and resource waste management transactions.
This is a great opportunity for a qualified candidate looking for a dynamic role spanning hedge fund and private equity type transactions in the energy transition sector. The Senior Associate will partner with the front office commercial team and support the full lifecycle of energy transition transactions. They will be exposed to all features of AB CarVal’s Energy Transition business, will be responsible for several aspects of new and existing transactions, and will work closely with a wide variety of parties both within AB CarVal and externally.
Principal Accountabilities:
Operational Management – 60%
Provide day-to-day operational input on energy transition investment transactions
Quickly evaluate complex situations that arise and use good judgement to propose solutions
Engage with and interpret detailed energy transition investment transaction legal documents
Monthly updating of models; production and booking of discounted cashflow valuations and IRRs
Effectively manage be-spoke complex financing agreements, including oversight of monthly construction draws
Independently review and book fundings and distributions on energy transition investments
Set up new deal structures, manage existing deal structures
Complete due diligence and audit requests by working with appropriate partners
Coordinate and manage all aspects of tracking energy transition transactions in AB CarVal’s systems
Respond to internal and external queries regarding energy transition investment transactions throughout their life-cycle
Business Partnering – 40%
Collaborate with the AB CarVal energy transition commercial team and external energy transition projects’ partners
Provide input on energy transition investment transaction documentation alongside AB CarVal energy transition commercial team
Make judgement based decisions related to the operations function and assume responsibility for the impact to the business
Understand key areas of the energy transition investment transactions/business and anticipate potential issues; proactively communicate solutions to others within the team or management
Assist with collateral management and project by project review/analysis/milestoning within energy transition investment transactions
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related industry
3+ years accounting/finance experience
Advanced Excel skills including data modelling and analysis
Demonstrates knowledge and mechanics of lending instruments, legal documents and structures
Strong work ethic and commitment to a high standard of excellence
Proven ability to balance multiple assignments and manage quality, accuracy, and consistency of each work product
A self-starter with the ability to follow through and complete tasks
High level verbal and written communication skills
Strong drive for results with both detailed and practical focus
Strong analytical/problem solving skills
Enjoys working in a collaborative team environment, partnering with commercial team
Ability to travel on business
Certified Public Accountant
Experience with renewable energy investments, transactions, asset management terms and concepts
Experience working in an alternative investment fund manager or similar industry
Public accounting or Financial Services experience
Demonstrated initiative in communicating issues and concepts to multiple groups at multiple levels
Knowledge and/or experience with conducting audits and due diligence of external companies
In accordance with applicable law, the minimum and maximum base annual salary for this role is as follows:
Base Salary Range: $85,000 to $125,000
Actual base salaries may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job-related factors. Base salary is just one component of total compensation at AB, which may include, depending on eligibility, commissions, year-end incentive compensation, short- and long-term incentives and Department-specific awards.
