Senior Associate, Family Engagement - New Mexico (P1)

Summary

Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world.

The Senior Associate, Family Engagement - New Mexico is responsible for building advocacy bases in local communities within target legislative districts. You will do this by identifying, cultivating, and organizing Save the Children Action Network parent and caregiver volunteers. You will work closely with Save the Children’s U.S. Program and Save the Children Action Network’s staff in the state, other early learning partners, and nutrition-focused organizations in the region to create learning and advocacy opportunities for families of children who participate in publicly funded programs. You will assist these parents and caregivers in leading, advocating, and engaging their community to build relationships with policymakers and elected officials. Currently, SCAN campaigns advocate for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S. In partnership with the State & National Campaigns team, you will execute online and offline strategies to educate and engage targeted individuals and groups to meet our annual goals and deliverables.

This position is a virtual office based in Doña Ana County, New Mexico. 

What You’ll Be Doing

Working together with the State Manager and Save the Children U.S. Program staff, build a base of parent and caregiver advocates and develop community partnerships in key legislative districts. Outreach in English and Spanish to community stakeholders, partner organizations, and others as necessary.  (40%) Assist the State Manager in recruiting and building a volunteer leader model that supports outreach to elected officials through emails, phone calls, social media, and in-person meetings, letters to the editor, and blog posts. (20%) Conduct trainings in English and Spanish and provide ongoing support for parent/caregiver volunteers and community partners. (20%) Promote SCAN’s agenda in coordination with partners by planning local events that educate the public about SCAN’s advocacy priorities. Assist the State Manager in planning and recruiting for State and National Advocacy Summits. (20%)

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 2 years of relevant experience Spanish-proficiency, including ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal Spanish, and lead trainings and make presentations in Spanish Demonstrated experience in community engagement or issue-based advocacy Proven organization and multi-tasking abilities, often in the face of competing deadlines Willingness and ability to travel up to 30%

This position may require the incumbent to operate a motor vehicle to fulfill certain essential functions of the job.  The incumbent should maintain a valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with any Save the Children policies pertaining to the safe operation of motor vehicles

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to build and develop lasting relationships in diverse communities Experience working with local community members and strategic partners, with the ability to cultivate existing relationships Professional or lived expertise with publicly funded early learning or child nutrition programs

Compensation

Save the Children Action Network pays the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $45,050 – $50,350 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
