Senior Assistive Technology Specialist
**Description** The Senior Assistive Technology Specialist reports to the Manager, VUE Accessibility Services, and will provide leadership in the research and technical discovery of assistive technology capabilities, coordinate assistive technology interoperability testing efforts with Pearson VUE products and VUE delivered exams, and provide primary support for training and troubleshooting related to the use of assistive technology for teams across Pearson VUE and for Pearson VUE clients. **Major Responsibilities** + Conduct targeted and thorough research on a wide range of assistive technology hardware and software. Develop a thorough understanding of the different types of assistive technologies and the intended user base for each type of technology. + Work with vendors to stay informed of trends in the use of assistive technology, including the release of new products and the changes in functionality and capabilities of assistive technology. + Provide consultation to highly technical cross-functional teams regarding security considerations when various types of assistive technology, and features within specific assistive technologies, are used in assessments. + Conduct regular interoperability tests on Pearson VUE products with commonly used assistive technologies. Maintain accurate internal interoperability reports that are available to internal stakeholders. + Create documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences to explain how to configure and use assistive technology successfully. + Create training materials that are engaging and provide opportunities to interact with assistive technology and Pearson VUE content. Provide training to teams on the purpose, configuration of, and use of assistive technology. + Research and implement solutions to complicated or unique assistive technology candidate requests. Serve as the primary contact for these deliveries and assist with the implementation of these plans. + Research technical issues regarding the use of assistive technology with Pearson VUE products and facilitate timely resolutions. + Advise product development and technical teams on recommended test plans for evaluating the interoperability of assistive technologies with Pearson VUE development platforms and products. + Identify potential conflicts with assistive technology features and tools that are embedded within platforms and products. + Other duties as assigned. **Education** + A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as education, special education, rehabilitation science, occupational therapy, or computer science, is required. + Certification(s) or Required Training + Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) obtained through the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) + Certification in the field of assistive technology or current progress towards obtaining a valid certification. **Experience** + 3+ years of experience in the field of assistive technology required + Special Knowledge and Skills + Functional knowledge of disability categories and the accessible materials and assistive technologies designed to support people with diverse needs + Understanding of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and other accessibility standards + Understanding of the principles of universal design and universal design for learning + Ability to use common assistive technologies such as Job Access with Speech (JAWS), Non-Visual Desktop Access (NVDA), speech-to-text software, screen magnification software, communication boards, and adaptive switches. + Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly. + Exemplary written and verbal communication skills. + Ability to develop relationships within the assistive technology community + Demonstrated ability to leverage free training resources and to initiate and manage the acquisition of new skills as needed to meet job requirements. + Ability to develop a process to solve a problem or achieve a goal and demonstrate initiative in doing so. **Preferred Qualifications** + Master’s degree in Assistive Technology **About your Benefits and Rewards** Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, New York State, New York City, Washington State, and Washington, DC laws, the pay range for this position is as follows: The full-time salary range is between **$75,000 - $80,000** annually.
