Michael Baker International has an immediate opening for a full-time, exempt, Senior Archaeologist (Archaeologist III) in Columbia, South Carolina. A Senior Archaeologist performs both office and field/lab work, including management of archaeological field crews and supervision of all phases of archaeological investigations. Preference is given to candidates who have demonstrated credentials and experience in the Southeastern United States, with particular emphasis in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi.
Initially, the successful candidate will oversee a minimum 2-year long project involving Phase I, II, and III archaeological investigations and construction monitoring for the Columbia Canal Reconstruction Project. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Archaeology Department Manager to expand and generate new opportunities and increase staff in the southeast region. It is anticipated that this position will be hybrid office/remote depending on need, although proximity to Columbia, SC and ability to efficiently interact with both Client and Agency staff is paramount.

Meet Secretary of the Interior standards (36 Code of Federal Regulations Part 61) for applicable discipline. Graduate degree (M.A. / M.S. and/or Ph.D.) in Anthropology (Archaeology) or closely related discipline (e.g., museum studies, history, geomorphology). Have a firm understanding of Section 106, National Environmental Policy Act, and/or applicable permitting guidelines Work as a project lead and take direction to the satisfaction of the Department Manager, Cultural Resource Director, project manager, and/or the client. Have excellent communication skills with both internal and external clients and carry themselves in a professional manner. Have excellent technical writing, technical editing, verbal communication, and public speaking skills. Understand project budgets, administration, contracts, and project management responsibilities. Have working knowledge of software including Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Adobe Photoshop, and GIS.COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $93,844 to $140,778. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
