Senior Accountant
Description Are you an experienced accounting professional passionate about making a difference in the nonprofit sector? Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage complex financial responsibilities and support their impactful initiatives. This opportunity offers a hybrid work model, combining remote flexibility with in-office collaboration in a dynamic and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities: + Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. + Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and reports to ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP for nonprofits). + Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. + Maintain and optimize use of the Financial Edge accounting software, including data integrity checks, report generation, and system updates. + Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including IRS, grant reporting, and audit guidelines relevant to nonprofit organizations. + Assist in developing and monitoring the organization’s annual budget and financial forecasts. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial guidance and support decision-making. + Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering professional growth and developing their technical expertise. + Serve as the key liaison for external audits and coordinate with auditors to ensure successful audit outcomes. + Lead process improvement initiatives and recommend technology optimizations to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Requirements Qualifications: + Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required). CPA or advanced degree (preferred). + Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a preference for nonprofit sector experience. + Software Skills: Proficiency in Financial Edge (required), along with advanced Excel and familiarity with other ERP systems. + In-depth knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, fund accounting, and donor-restricted funds management. + Strong understanding of internal controls, financial reporting, and audit processes. + Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. + Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and thrive in a hybrid work environment with minimal supervision. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
