Senior Accountant

Position Housed At Desert Diamond West Valley Property (9431 W Northern Ave, Glendale, Az 85305)

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Finance Supervisor, the position monitors the business activities of the organization through the maintenance and audit of records related to financial reporting.  This will include monitoring and reconciling balance sheets and income statement activity, while working with the accounting team members and other departments to ensure accurate and timely information is being generated by the Finance Department.  The position must have excellent analytical skills and in-depth knowledge of accounting principles to efficiently create and analyze financial records.  The position maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Maintains general and subsidiary ledgers, updates cash flow worksheets; prepares bank/wire transfers; reconciles balance sheet accounts; contributes in the preparation of regular and special fiscal statements and reports.Manages leases, calculations and reporting.Responsible for all matters pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the Fixed Asset System.Prepares and reviews, revenue, expense, payroll, and related journal entries.  Monitors revenue and expenses; ensures expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements, and standard accounting procedures.  Prepares working papers for audit.Assists with and contributes to internal and external audit request.Assists with and contributes to risk assessment evaluations as they occur.Assists department directors and managers in providing financial and statistical reporting requests.Ensures compliance with approved Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS), State, and National Gaming Regulations.Contributes to the review and development of Internal Controls and Policies and Procedures.Manages requestor training for account coding.Supports Fixed Asset System in construction, maintenance capital and annual inventory.Reviews and reconciles all IRS tax reporting requirements. Manages credit card processing and fraud monitoring of all bank accounts.Assists with construction and special projects.Ensures strict confidentiality of financial records.Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education And Experience

Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance plus five (5) years of experience in advanced general ledger accounting.  Gaming and Supervisory experience preferred. No felony, theft, assault or stealing convictions.  Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, obtain and maintain gaming license and to include the following:

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:

Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounted Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards.Knowledge of gaming regulations and reporting requirements.Knowledge and understanding of standard accounts receivable processes.Knowledge of standard purchasing processes.Knowledge and understanding of computerized accounting systems.Knowledge of cash management principles and/or procedures.Knowledge of inventory accounting methods.Ability to communicate, read, and write clearly in English.Ability to demonstrate outstanding guest service at all times.Ability to guide and train team members, to include organizing, prioritizing, and work assignments.Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems and formulate sound recommendation for their resolution.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.Ability to meet strict timelines.Intermediate skill level in Excel and accounting software.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and be able to reach out and pick-up and hold small objects. The team member frequently is required to stand; walk; and talk or hear.  The team member must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  

Work Environment

Work is generally performed in an office and casino setting with a moderate to high noise level.  Evenings, graveyards, holidays and/or weekend work may be required.  Extended hours and irregular shifts may also be required.
