This role is responsible for processing transactions in the general ledger efficiently, accurately and with minimal rework. This includes:
Accurate processing of financial transactions in general ledger for the Global Centre.Perform allocated tasks during month-end and year-end close processes, accurately and on a timely basis.Lead the accounts receivable end-to end process from billings, collections and reporting to various MFIs.Support a strong internal control environment within the Accounting team and its processes across the Global Centre, identifying gaps in existing policies and processes and proposing improvements and recommendations, as appropriate. Identify improvements to practices of the team and global finance processes, with a continuous improvement and customer-focused mind set.Help carry out our Christian organization’s mission, vision, and strategies. Perform key accounting processes including month-end closeMaintain and coordinate the implementation of internal controls in accounting by analysing and validating the appropriateness, accuracy and correctness of transactions and supporting documents and preparing and recommending policies and procedures.Lead the Accounts receivable billings to various micro-finance institutions (MFIs)Support the financial year-end close and assist in the annual external audit processes and tax filingSupport the VFI Global Centre staff on the procurement processIdentify gaps in the existing policies and procedures, focusing primarily on finance policies and procedures, and work with colleagues to support changes to policies and procedures to enhance practice in the Global Centre, where appropriate.Create and maintain key process flows where no procedures exist, and assist in handling special accounting projectsKnowledge, Skills and Experience
Required Professional Experience
Has minimum of 3-5 years of experience in private/corporate accounting At least two years of related professional experience, preferably with exposure to corporate financial systems.Required Education, training, license, registration,and certification Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field Has sufficient knowledge and experience in handling complex finance and accounting processes especially preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, general ledger, and financial statements. Demonstrates expertise in computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite, BlackLine, intranet and Internet, and various software applications and databases used in work efforts, especially Microsoft Excel.Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
Demonstrates proficiency in English communication skills (written and oral)Demonstrates and maintains a current working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as determined by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), knowledge of non-profit accounting, auditing standards, financial reporting and cash managementStrong numeracy and analytical skillsAt least 1 year of work experience in a non-profit or development organization is preferredTravel, Work and Language Requirements
