Self-Direction Specialist Location: Howard Beach, Queens, NY, United StatesDate Posted: Oct 3, 2024 Share: share to e-mail Apply Now Save JobSaved Description Location: Howard Beach, Queens, NY Pay Rate: $25.00 per hour Hours: 20 hours, Flexible Monday-Friday OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES: This position will assist in providing general support to the Meaningful NY Self-Direction program. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: + Provide training and support to staff and families. + Assist with developing outreach strategies, community and public awareness of Self-Direction including but not limited to presentations at events, conferences, schools, etc. + Oversee and lead Self-Advocacy group, document attendance and goals of the group, follow-up on action items, etc. + Actively participate in the Family, Community Advisory Committee + Facilitate the work of the Family, Community Advisory sub-committee in NYC + Participate in staff meetings and trainings as requested. + Provide general support to Self-Direction program as requested. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONAL / ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT: + Maintain successful working relationships with all members of the Self-Direction team + Assignments may be determined at a future date + Provide advocacy with Public Officials and legislature and represent family, individual, and program needs within the community + Coverage of FI Coordinator caseload on an as needed basis – cover Life Plan and/or COS meetings, review budgets, invoices, compliance review, general customer service, etc. QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES: + Strong communication skills and the ability to multi- task + Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail + Able to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment + Able to effectively utilize a variety of electronic systems such as Microsoft Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word and time and attendance systems EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: + Three years of experience in OPWDD services + Experience in Self-Advocacy and Self-Direction PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: + Must be capable to sit or stand in front of a computer for long-periods of time + Must be able to travel in and around New York Share: mail Apply Now
