Job Description:
This position is responsible for the protection and safety of employees, patients, and visitors while on hospital property. In addition to working as a Security Officer provides specialist support by overseeing a program or specialty such as a Canine Officer or Safety / Preparedness representative.Job Essentials
Performs routine rounds on the interior and exterior of the facility including parking areas.Understands and enforces Intermountain Policies and Procedures and safety practices.Responds promptly to dispatch calls and responds in a timely matter. Performs scene assessment, gathers relevant information, resolves conflict and completes appropriate documentation.Provides directions and information to patients, visitors, employees and volunteers while in the facility or on rounds.Investigates incidents and writes detailed reports.Trains other officers and employees related to specialty.Oversees a specialty or program as assigned by management. As a specialist supporting Canine Programs, duties may include:Maintains adequate crowd control with canine. Patrols hospital and conducts drug searches as required.Ensures a minimum of 250 hours of annual training for canine.Responsible for total care and maintenance of canine.As a specialist supporting Safety, Preparedness, or Regulatory Compliance duties may include Leads and coordinates regular emergency preparedness exercises and drills. Provides follow up on corrective actions needed post-drill. Creates, maintains, and improves facility emergency plan. Coordinates grants and participates in community groups related to emergency response. Participates in various committees, which may include Hazardous Materials, Environment of Care, Safety, Emergency Preparedness and Responses.
Coordinates or performs various audits and inspections, (e.g. Eye Wash Station Audit, Fire Extinguisher audit, etc). Maintains necessary files needed for regulatory compliance (e.g. logs, reports, meeting minutes, MSDS records, etc). Supports various audits or surveys by regulatory agencies or accreditation bodies. As a specialist supporting Investigations duties may include:
Conducts detailed investigation of cases requiring added work beyond information provided by the security incident report
Investigates cases of controlled substance/drug irregularities
Conducts investigations as a primary responsibility and on a scale that is deeper and more complex than is typical for Security Officers in completing reports.
Interviews and takes statements from individuals
Liaisons with Internal Audit, police and DEA as appropriate.
Minimum QualificationsMust have and maintain a Utah Driver’s License.Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.One year law enforcement or security service experience.Must have strong interpersonal skills, especially in deescalating strong emotional situations.Demonstrates effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Industrial Hygiene, or other Social Science.Prior experience working in healthcare or with regulatory bodies such as (Joint Commission, OSHA, FEMA, NFPA, etc.).
