Summary This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities You will assist personnel during an emergency situation (e.g., accidents, drills, fire, natural disasters, motor vehicle or industrial accidents, political demonstrations, hostage or terrorist situations) to protect the safety of life and property. You will perform foot or vehicle patrol of perimeters, roadways, parking, and other high traffic areas to confirm the entry control process is following established procedures and regulations. You will monitor alarm systems to detect, interrupt, and identify criminal activity. You will perform functional checks of alarm systems to certify proper operation of systems. You will interview persons to obtain or verify information related to suspicious persons or activity. You will speak with witnesses or persons involved in accidents to obtain statements. You will apprehend or detain individuals in accordance with regulations or laws. You may serve as a competent witness in a court of law or testify on the results of violations. You will check credentials of personnel or vehicles to control access to base posts, buildings, private property, or restricted areas. You will respond to rapid changes in conditions of readiness to maintain security. You will direct vehicles and pedestrian traffic during periods of emergency or increased traffic. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications For GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Authenticating identification for access to restricted areas; 2) Regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic to maintain traffic flow and security operations; 3) Granting or denying personnel access into restricted areas; and 4) Preforming private and commercial vehicle inspections and package inspections following prescribed procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from facilities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires evening and weekend work. Required to pass Physical Abilities and Agility Tests. Must read, write, understand, and speak English.
