Job Title : Section Manager – CAE Analysis & Feature and Body Engineering

 

Department/Section Overview:

 

Cab Engineering is a department within Vehicle Engineering Bangalore, responsible for developing Cabin Components and Systems for engineering sites globally. We work with all the Volvo group truck brands globally. We develop strategies and work on an Advanced engineering portfolio for Value range Trucks. We understand the customer needs and apply our knowledge to develop optimized technical solutions to meet customer expectations.

CAE Analysis & Feature and Body Engineering Section is part of the CAB Engineering

 

Department. This section has         

4 groups: (1) Durability & NVH Analysis & feature, (2) Safety Analysis & Feature, (3) Aero CFD Analysis & Feature and (4) Body Engineering. Overall, this Section has around 100+ Engineers.

 

The three CAE Analysis & Feature groups (Durability & NVH, Safety and Aero CFD)  support virtual verification & validation, Virtual method development using advanced calculation tools for the Truck CAB across brands within the Volvo group, in the areas of System, Cabin & Vehicle Durability, NVH, Safety and Aero CFD performance attributes.  These 3 groups are managed by individual Group Managers and, they directly report to Section Manager - CAE Analysis & Feature and Body Engineering Section.

 

Body Engineering group is responsible for End-to-End product development & Maintenance of Body In White, Door In White, Door Components (Hinges, Latches, Locks, Extruded Rubber Seals, Handles & Window Lift) & Glazing (Windshield and Windows) areas. This group is also responsible for all the surface treatment (Pre-treatment, Primer, Coatings and Paint) of the trucks and Gluing/ Structure adhesives & Cabin tightness of the Cab domain. The group also has the Scrum Masters, working with the SAFe Agile framework towards project management execution at operational level. Body Engineering group team members directly report to the Section Manager  - CAE Analysis & Feature and Body Engineering Section.   

    

Team members of this section closely work with other CAB Engineering sites of Gothenburg, Lyon, Greensboro, Curitiba & Australia along with other alliance and JV partners, and other business units in Design, development and Virtual validation to meet key Feature Performance attributes in an agile framework and way of working.

Section Manager – CAE Analysis & Feature and Body Engineering will report to Chief Engineer – CAB Engineering and will be part of the CAB Engineering Leadership Team at Bangalore.

 

Job Description:
 

As Section Manager – CAE Analysis & Feature and Body Engineering, you will lead the activities such as: 

Responsible for Engagement and deliveries for the Cab Body and Cab Analysis groups in CABe, GTT Bangalore. Recruitment/Salary setting / roles and organization to be managed in consultation with CABe CE.               As a leading leader, the section manager: Supports the group managers of respective groups under the section for securing the deliveries, supports product ownership of the group managers as well. Develop team competence and product knowledge and support in overall growth of the team / team members. Additionally, he/she directly manages the scope & deliverables covering the design & development of SIPD parts as deliveries for the Volvo truck brand according to product evolution & market needs. Work in tandem with Chief Engineer CABe and take delegated responsibilities in supporting & driving strategic initiatives and actions towards CABe, Vehicle Engineering, GTT Bangalore and global GTT, wherever needed. Full involvement in GTT Digital Transformation Simulation Subgroups, guiding team towards development and implementation of  Method development Proposals. Drive innovation through Advanced engineering, Patent to industrialization & Continuous improvement (Products, Process, Methods) by collaborating with internal & external partners like start-ups, suppliers & corporate partners, governmental initiatives & universities through CampX set up.

 

Section Manager – CAE Analysis & Feature and Body Engineering - Roles & Responsibilities:

People development

Responsible for training, education and overall development of reporting group managers and the reporting team members to meet both current and future competence requirements Play a key role in implementing the culture transformation journey to meet the organization’s expectations and goals.

 

Collaboration & Networking

Act as a bridge for communication, assuring top-down and bottom-up distribution of information. Maintain a network globally within CABe, with other departments in Group Trucks Technology, Group Trucks Operations, Purchasing and sales organization and ensure alignment for scope defined under sections & groups within.

Leadership

As a primary member of the CABe management team, Work on the strategic priorities and the focus areas on a continuous basis according to the business needs of the departments and VE, GTT site, interacting mainly with the Chief Engineer CABe. Actively contribute, support development & documentation of Product system roadmaps for future product evolutions based on input from Product ownership areas as well as COP participation groups. Secure that the group maintains an awareness of important technological developments both within and outside the truck industry for concerned technology areas.

Operations

Represent the Section and Group responsible in the Vehicle development teams for reviewing and endorsing the projects deliverables and decisions.  Work & direct the teams with a customer-centric mindset focusing on Quality and should drive engineering from conceptualization to maintenance of the systems and components designed, including field failures & end customer complaints. Establish, maintain and control group budget to support department yearly frames.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

BE / BTech / MS / MTech in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering with experience in end-to-end Product development. 15 + years of Automotive product development experience with good knowledge of Commercial Trucks and Performance attribute requirements on Cab areas  Direct People’s leadership experience and Prior experience of leading leaders could be an advantage Additional qualifications towards business strategies, operations and finance would be beneficial. Experience in the Cab structural and Body engineering BIW DiW, Analysis- Durability, NVH, Safety and Aero CFD), Experience in Engineering design & development and Cab systems optimization, Simulation analysis tools. Also exposure to their Physical testing and Validation Strong Communication and demonstrated Networking & Collaboration skills. Experienced of leading people to carry out various Product development activities and collaboration with different sites. Experience of handling Start-cost projects, Maintenance  projects (Quality  & VAVE) and Advanced Engineering projects. Practical experience from agile and lean principles is preferred.
