The Section Geologist is responsible for providing a specialist Geological service to the mine with regards to a value driven exploitation of ore reserves and allowing responsible resource management.

Job DescriptionMaintaining and developing geological standards to support the achievement of optimum grade and enable effective mine planning, designs and ore extraction.Review and advise on the maximum exploitation of the ore bodyContribute to the effectiveness of the Geology and MRM team.Establishing and maintaining geological standards (especially on plans and sections)Implementing effective controls and procedures. Relating to grade control (stope widths reporting and underground sampling)Supervising underground geology drilling programme.Managing optimum exposure of PGE mineralization in development and stope faces grades/grade control (stope widths reporting and underground sampling)Advising Management / provide recommendations.Investigating reasons for excessive dilution or ore loss.Managing geology drilling and sampling programmePlanning monthly Geology requirements and prioritiesCompiling and designing reports / plans and sections appropriate to the Geology function.Advise ore body related risks for effective mine design and planning.Ensuring optimization of available ore reservesDetermining geological losses in alignment with Group StandardCompiles the structural model of his/her area of responsibility.Recommending negotiation of geological disturbancesAvoidance of White areas through proactive planning participation.Supporting training and development requirements of relevant staffAssists with the induction of new employeesValidate all acquired data and derived resultsAdvice to mining and other MRM departments on geology issues related complexities and problemsPreparation and scheduling of geology plans/sections and reportsEnsure compliance on system requirements, mapping, drilling and sampling coverage to enable safe and profitable mining activities.Identifying potential and problematic ore reserves (incl. White Area management)

QualificationsMatricAppropriate Tertiary Geology qualification (BSc. or BTech in Geology as a minimum)

Experience

Post qualification experience in mining geology (2 years)Post qualification experience in Bushveld and platinum geology (2 years)
