Serving under the direction of the Corps Officers, the Summer Youth Ministries Assistant will be involved in summer outreach activities including Vacation Bible School and Summer Day Camp. The Summer Youth Ministries Assistant will also work with the Community Center Coordinator and Director of Operations to achieve assigned goals.
The ideal candidate should be committed to the cause of Christ and must have a demonstrable relationship with Christ. They should be able to work independently while remaining passionate and teachable.
This position is seasonal from May 26 - August 8, 2025.
ResponsibilitiesGENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attend and contribute to all Department Head, General Staff & Ministry Team Meetings.
• To assist with the oversight of the youth program schedule activities
• To train or mentor youth for occupational endeavors and foster leadership whenever possible.
• To assist with the organization of fundraisers assisting in funding the overall youth ministry, as necessary
• To provide a suitable atmosphere throughout the Corps, that is in line with Army standards and encourages moderation in behavior, language, etc.
• To bring to the attention of the Corps Officers any problems and or/needs of the Corps, and must keep the Corps Officers informed about activities and prospective ministry opportunities, from the membership.
• To facilitate, in every way possible, the mission of The Salvation Army, at the direction of the Corps Officers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serve as coordinator of Vacation Bible School, including planning & executing of the event
• Responsible for Youth Outreach activities & opportunities (including daily devotions)
• Serve as the on-site point of contact for Camp NEOSA participants and their families
• Involvement with Emergency Disaster Service work, as needed
• Assist Corps Officers with all Community & Public Relations Events
• Support the Community Center Coordinator, by serving as Senior Group Leader for Summer Day Camp Programming
• Assist Community Center Coordinator, in every possible way, to advance the mission of The Salvation Army Summer Camp Program.
• Assume responsibility for Day Camp Operations, in the absence of the Community Center Coordinator
• Assume responsibility, in conjunction with the Community Center Coordinator, for the all areas, proper use of supplies, maintenance of inventory, requesting additional supplies as needed.
• Meet regularly with Community Center Coordinator to coordinate Day Camp programming
• Responsible for the complete and overall supervision of the Group Leaders.
• Responsible for implementation and management of Camp Discipline policy, including exclusions for trips; consulting with the Community Center Coordinator and Corps Officers on major disciplinary actions
• Correct or reprimand staff as soon as possible (in private), for actions that put the health and safety of campers at risk. Document all written and verbal warnings.
• Must be a member of The Salvation Army church, who will be required to attend worship services weekly at the East Cleveland Corps, while employed
• Must uphold Biblical standards in personal and professional life, including fiscal support of the Corps Ministry, while employed
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Responsible, accountable, respectful, positive role model and be able to follow instructions
• Patient and able to assist children in all program areas
• Ability to read and write effectively; follow written instructions, adhere to policy and procedure of The Salvation Army
• Coordinate the effective flow of work through the general office for the corps and programs.
• Receive the public on behalf of the Salvation Army and assist by directing to appropriate areas.
• Strong knowledge of computers is required
