Job Description

Position Summary:

The role as Scientist II joins our dynamic and highly collaborative team of in vitro pharmacologists, biochemists, and cell biologists focused on supporting fully integrated drug discovery programs. At Eurofins Beacon Discovery we contribute to all aspects of drug discovery programs for collaborators and clients focused mainly on, but not limited to, the GPCR family of receptors. Beacon Discovery is searching for a Scientist level candidate to lead a small team performing cell-based high-throughput assays as part of integrated drug discovery programs. Experience using liquid handling and laboratory automation is preferred. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, possess strong analytical skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring rigorous scientific excellence and integrity. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Validate and optimize small scale assays to high-throughput screening (HTS) platformOperate automated HTS robotic system, daily QC and troubleshoot technical issuesResponsible for all aspects of processing compoundsDesign, validate and perform various in vitro and ex-vivo cell-based and biochemical assays to interrogate function of GPCRs and other drug targetsPerform assays addressing receptor/drug mechanism of action using targets expressing both recombinant as well as endogenous in native cells and tissuesParticipate in automation and standardization of assays and creation of SOPs as neededPerform and/or oversee SAR studies for small molecule drug optimizationMaintain familiarity with the relevant current scientific literature and provide scientific input both conceptually as well as to bring to bench internally novel experimental approaches and technologiesParticipate in multiple drug discovery projects concurrentlyCollect, analyze, and present experimental data summaries at team meetings internally and to outside collaborators and clientsPrepare written reports and SOPsRead scientific literature and engage with project teamsDemonstrate an eagerness to train, mentor, and manage research associates.Oversee team of associates

Qualifications

Basic Minimum Qualifications (BMQ):

Degree in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or a related scientific discipline with defined years of experience. Industry experience in small molecule drug discovery would be advantageous.Experience in GPCR molecular pharmacology or cell biology is strongly preferred.Experience with in vitro medium to high throughput assays. Familiarity or experience with lab automation and liquid handlers is a big plus.Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, data analysis and communication skillsAbility to work independently as well as in close collaborative setting across internal and outside interdisciplinary teams

Education/Experience (BMQ):

Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years’ experience, Master’s degree with 10+ years, or PhD degree with 5+ years with experience in life sciences or related discipline

Supervisory Responsibility:

Oversee Lab Assistant or Research Associate I/II level employees

Additional Information

Compensation:

$115,000- $160,000 annually
