**Job Title: Scientist II, Protein Purification**

**Discover Impactful Work:**
You will join a team performing all tasks related to protein purification. You will work in a controlled manufacturing facility under controlled conditions using purification equipment and analytical techniques.
**A Day in the Life:**
+ Purification of protein products in a lab setting by applying standard operating procedures. Use basic laboratory techniques, calculations, and materials measurement. Operate laboratory equipment and maintain accurate records in order to ensure controlled product manufacturing.
+ Perform column purification/chromatography, tangential flow filtration (TFF), buffer preparation, SDS-Page Analysis, Western Blotting, and other protein characterization techniques.
+ Responsible for Batch Data Records, notebooks (if required) and work order documents.
+ Apply technical knowledge and skills to make detailed observations and analyze data to ensure it falls within operating parameters. Notifies the manager about any factors that may impact the product's quality.
+ Maintain equipment, product inventories and related records as assigned.
+ Complete, distribute and file records as required in accordance with Document Control Practices under controlled conditions.
+ Align with all company safety regulations and procedures and report any instances of non-compliance.
+ Maintain knowledge of SDSs for relevant products/materials.
+ Operate a safe work environment through continuous safety awareness and full compliance to all EH&S programs and activities.
+ Identify potential issues in a process; report findings to team management, perform troubleshooting (as required) and identify solutions.
+ Modify technical documents which include standard operating procedures and manufacturing batch records within the requirements of the quality management system.
+ Supports process improvement projects (as required) to reduce process scrap or improve quality and productivity.
+ May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
**Experience:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in biological science preferred and 2+ years’ experience in the application of cellular or microbiology laboratory techniques in a manufacturing environment or R&D laboratory (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
+ Intermediate knowledge and experience with protein biochemistry and chromatography techniques.
+ Strong understanding of GLP and GMP processes and documentation.
+ Demonstrated experience on AKTA or NGC Purifier Systems.
+ Excellent communication (written and oral) skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment. Highly motivated and dedicated individual who is well organized, meticulous with strong social skills and the ability to multitask.

+ Experience with different modes of chromatography such as: affinity, ion-exchange, size exclusion, hydrophobic interaction. Understanding of protein/resin interactions.
+ Applies lean tools to ensure processes are carried out right the first time.
+ Theoretical understanding of protein chemistry, methods and techniques.
+ Proactive approach that anticipates needs and problems while creating solutions.
+ Strong collaborative skills and the ability to influence others without authority.
+ Working knowledge of manufacturing related computer software preferred.
+ Intermediate Excel skills.
**Working Conditions:**
+ Works in a clean, controlled, manufacturing lab environment with specialized equipment.
+ Regularly required to lift up to 20 pounds. May lift weight of 45 pounds or more, with assistance and/or with equipment on occasion.
+ May be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties.
+ Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
+ Must work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials.
+ Must work in +4ºC Cold-Room.

**Compensation and Benefits**
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $31.73–$47.60.
