Our focus is reducing the environmental risk posed by 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored in 177 underground tanks on the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. Join us today and be a part of history! Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) is looking for a Scientist. The primary responsibilities are to serve as a Technical Analyst and Technical Basis authority for Emergency Management Technical Planning documents for WRPS. A successful individual in this position will be able to apply the scientific method to evaluate possible disasters that would disrupt WRPS mission activities and result in the release of hazardous material. A successful individual in this position will be able to demonstrate written and verbal skills to articulate their evaluation to a diverse audience. The specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following activities: -Review, analyze, write and maintain the WRPS Emergency Preparedness Hazards Survey, WRPS Emergency Planning Hazard Assessments (EPHA) for each hazardous facility, and Emergency Action Level (EAL) procedure for hazardous facilities, ensuring compliance with Site level procedures and DOE Orders. - Coordinate with internal and external organizations to ensure documents are consistent with safety basis documents and Emergency Management analyses techniques. - Participate in self-assessments on Emergency Management Program requirements -Assist in the corrective action management process. -Support Emergency Preparedness drills/exercises for Emergency Response Organization (ERO) -Review and participate in training Emergency Response Organization (ERO) -Participate in the Hanford Site Exercise Program -Serve as a member of the Hanford Site Emergency Operations Center - Perform additional duties as assigned by management Required Qualifications Grade 16: BS Degree in a scientific discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Math, Physics) and 2 years of related experience. Grade 17: BS Degree in a scientific discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Math, Physics) and 5 years of related experience. Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased. Grade 18: BS Degree in a scientific discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Math, Physics) and 7 years of related experience. Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is significantly larger, and the expected level of performance is greatly increased. Desired Qualifications -Past Nuclear or Health Physics experience is highly desirable. -Knowledge in Emergency Management and hazard assessment development processes. -Experience in use of applicable DOE consequence assessment modeling applications (Hotspot/EPI code) is preferred. -Demonstrated ability to problem solve complex operational and regulatory compliance issues. -Completed Hanford course "Selection of Scenarios for EPHA Analysis" Completed DOE course HAS-201DE "Fundamentals of Hazards Survey Development -Knowledge and understanding of DOE Order 151.1D and Documented Safety Analysis -FEMA Independent Study courses Compensation & Benefits In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
