Come join our Engineering Team at Eversource, our future is clean energy and helping to building an exciting new energy future !!! The intern will be trained to be responsible for operating support and maintenance of Eversource’s System Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
Our SCADA platform is a mission-critical system used for monitoring and controlling the sub-transmission and distribution electric power system. Support will include using data engineering tools to update and maintain complex real-time databases in support of system monitoring, operation and control and to model and diagnose data quality issues impacting SCADA. Responsibilities include building out displays, modifying our database and helping with ongoing project work surrounding the way our field devices interact with our current downstream infrastructure.
Essential Functions:
Develop, coordinate, implement, maintain and administer Eversource’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, and Energy Management System (SCADA/EMS) that includes expanding real-time databases, displays, calculations and applications.Develops and produces reports documenting SCADA/EMS performance.Actively participate in support and troubleshooting problems in all aspects of the EMS/SCADA system, specifically data acquisition issues: Front-end Communication processor issues, and the protocols used by SCADA to collect data from field (RTUs) and The Inter-Control Center Protocol (ICCP). Maintain strong working relationships and works effectively with Eversource’s Engineering, Planning, System Protection, Field Engineering and Communications and other operating personnel in Eversource throughout the various stages of capital projects and initiatives in scheduling and installing updates to the system and providing technical support for operating issues.Work with our engineering team to take on roles that are currently had to fill due to our day to day workload. Our team is heavily involved with multiple projects straining our team and this role will help fill those needs and provide the much-needed resources to help us meet our project timelines. Projects involved include, but not limited to, helping build out field devices within SCADA as we begin to expand our radio network to accommodate multiple spectrums. This role will also be asked to help scrub and improve the quality of displays that the operators interact with on a day to day basis providing greater ease to navigate, ensure proper data is coming in etc. This will be a measurable and project minded role that a certain level of self-starting and focus is required. Due to the nature of the work required (building displays, modifying our database, becoming familiar with backend systems that power our electrical grid) you will become familiar with the critical components needed that few people have a change toTechnical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Some knowledge of principles and practices related SCADA systems;Ability to understand and use theories of the Eversource distribution SystemKnowledge in SCADA protocols, including, DNP 3.0, L&G 8979, Harris and other protocols used for the collection of transmission and distribution system data.Skill in reading and interpreting diagrams and prints;Skill in analyzing and solving complex problems; Solid troubleshooting and critical thinking skills will be required to support the SCADA/EMS;Excellent verbal and written communication skills;Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with peers, teams, users, managers and vendors;Self-motivated and have the desire to stay abreast of latest SCADA/EMS technologies relating to power system operations and control;Knowledge with windows operating system and MS Windows applications is required.Education:
