What you’ll do
Position Title: SAP iXp Intern - Cloud Database Engine Developer
Location: Waterloo, ON
Expected start date to end date: May 05, 2025 - August 29, 2025
Work hours: 40 hours per week desired
Contribute to the design of new database/query processing features Implement new features using a variety of languages and tools Write automated tests for your features Benchmark features to quantify performance improvements Build strong skills in database and cloud technologies Be mentored by skilled researchers and developers who want to help you succeed

Meet your team
Look under the hood of almost any software project and you’ll find a database. Come join our Database Query Processing team and learn about the database from the inside out. We are responsible for developing cloud-focused database and data analytics functionality that underlies many SAP products. Our team consists primarily of masters or PhD level database researchers and software developers, focused on optimizing database performance. We have a special passion for mentoring students, sharing our knowledge with them, and helping them develop new skills.
We are looking for exceptional students to work on several features designed to improve database performance in the cloud. If you’re excited about writing lots of code and you love the challenge of achieving the best possible performance in your software, then this could be the job for you. Possible work areas include investigating optimal usage of (cloud-based) object storage and enhancing the Spark or Relational engines with new features to improve query performance.
Depending on your project you may use a variety of languages and tools. You will work with Python or C/C++ as your primary language, but may also use Scala, Go or other languages. Knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts would be a strong asset, as would knowledge of cloud technologies including Kubernetes.
