Samsung Wallet – Product Manager

Position Summary

Samsung Wallet is a mobile payment service and digital wallet developed by Samsung. It is designed to be a one-stop shop for all debit cards, credit cards, digital passes, and tickets, making them easy to access and use when necessary. With the rise of NFC payment terminals in stores and evolving consumer preferences over the past year, Samsung Wallet has never been more important. Working on the Samsung Wallet team will give you a chance to impact the lives of millions worldwide significantly. It will be invaluable to the future of payments and financial services. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from experts from various fields and work on exciting, challenging projects.

We seek a Product Manager (PM) with at least 10 years of experience in mobile technologies, preferably in security, identity, and payment service. Candidate should ideally have 5 years of experience in product management and be highly organized, technically inclined, and a detail-oriented team player. As a PM, you will be responsible for understanding the evolving space of digital identity cards, mobile driver’s licenses, and related areas, then defining the roadmap for Samsung Wallet to be a leader in this space. In addition to participating in industry events and standardization, you will articulate the use cases, drive product requirements for Samsung Wallet, and solicit and formalize feedback from internal and external stakeholders.

You will work with product managers and developers in Korea and other Samsung research centers to ensure that new features and enhancements to Samsung Wallet are built for US market needs and local user behavior, perform competitive analysis, and help the business team with partner buy-in to grow our ecosystem. The candidate should be comfortable working out the technical details of the system and product integration with partners and skilled in learning the technical nuances of their product areas; candidates with engineering backgrounds will get preference.

Role and Responsibilities

Contributing to the vision and roadmap of Samsung Wallet.

Take part in industry events and standardization work in digital identity, representing Samsung’s interest in the wallet space. 

Driving clarity of the product to meet commercial and strategic goals.

Defining and articulating use cases/requirements for features.

Soliciting and formalizing feedback from customers, marketing teams, and partners to shape the product strategy and roadmap.

Debate architectural choices with the engineering team and drive outcomes that align with US market needs and local regulations.

Validate the business case and partner readiness to prioritize among feature requests to ensure key business goals are met and attain market leadership while making optimal use of engineering bandwidth

Ensuring adherence to Product Management processes related to change control and documentation

Create product concepts for innovative new features and partnerships. Externally, highlight the value proposition of the Samsung Wallet ecosystem to partners, and internally, get executive and development team buy-in on the importance of a partner or feature.

Partnering with stakeholders and cross-functional teams, such as Engineering, Quality Assurance, Technical Program Managers, Marketing, and Customer Support, across various geographies (US, Korea, Philippines, and India).

Creating collateral material for feature launch, including a user FAQ, customer support training material, feature overview for other Samsung teams, value prop for partners, etc. 

Performing competitive and gap analysis to understand market trends for existing products and targeted market segments.

Skills and Qualifications

Experience Requirements:

An engineering degree in EE, CS, or something similar with IT industry experience of 10+ years, combined with engineering and product management experience.

Experience in large-scale, mobile-first applications and services and exposure to digital identity and mobile security are strongly desired.

Technical depth and business confidence to articulate various product choices and assert and defend positions regarding the definition and priority of features.

Experience with project management tools and software (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Microsoft Project)

Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau) preferred

A solid drive to succeed, driven by a passion for products, with a strong design sense.

Ability to gain influence across the business without authority.

Ability to align with Headquarters' global direction and influence and contribute to it.

Ability to navigate international cultures, work across time zones, and be willing to work with a remotely located development and design team.

Able to travel domestically or internationally, when required, to meet partners, development teams, or other stakeholders.

Proficiency in the Korean language is desirable but not mandatory.

The salary range for this role, for candidates based in NYC, is expected to be between $170,000 and $210,000.  Actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills and experience, and comparison to other employees in the role.
