Stanford University Libraries is seeking a part-time Digitization & Document Delivery Specialist to join the Remote Storage Department, better known as SAL3. About the Position:
Stanford Auxiliary Library 3 is a high-density, high efficiency, climate controlled, preservation warehouse located in Livermore, California. Operations at SAL3 revolve around processing new incoming books and boxes for long-term preservation storage as well as processing items that have been requested for use at a campus library (delivered via a daily delivery truck) or as scanned PDF’s that are delivered by email.
Under the supervision of the Head of SAL3, the SAL3 Library Specialist 4 will perform and manage the daily Scan-to-PDF services offered by SAL3 for Stanford University patrons. The Library Specialist 4 verifies citations in a variety of databases, identifies any existing electronic access to texts, interprets and applies copyright restrictions, and performs all document imaging activities such as scanning and posting documents electronically through specialized software. The SAL3 Library Specialist 4 will need to perform routine functions within the ILS (library database) such as item look-up, hold management, and item check-ins as well as navigate the SAL3 archival system and the Stanford Libraries catalogue website.
Along with the management of the Scan-to-PDF services, the SAL3 Library Specialist 4 will perform general administrative duties, including but not limited to, environmental data collection, management of SAL3 operation request forms and scheduling pertaining to campus needs, and any special projects assigned to them by the Head or Assistant Head of Remote Storage. The SAL3 Library Specialist 4 will also fulfill the role of Expert Partner (EP), helping with any SAL3 technical support and partnering with SULTech Support when needed.
Core Duties*:
· Provide high-level and in-depth reference and specialized research assistance.
· Participate in the development, implementation, and interpretation of policy concerning the organization, circulation, and care of the collection.
· Perform variant edition and original cataloging of materials.
· Compile detailed finding aids to large and complex archival collections.
· Interact with management and colleagues within and outside the functional area.
· Coordinate and perform a wide range of activities throughout a variety of digitization workflows for library materials.
· Maintain or assist in the development of bibliographies or organized research tools, (e.g. databases or a suite of web pages, as well as written documents associated with research activities).
· Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
· Assist curators performing complex acquisition projects.
· Oversee daily operations of a library unit to include supervision of lower level staff.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor's degree plus three or more years of experience in an academic library, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Specialized or advanced subject knowledge of complex information systems.
· Developed supervisory skills.
· Demonstrated experience using judgment and initiative to analyze and recommend new procedures.
Other Relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities May Include:
· Ability to use library content management database system software.
· Ability to use specialized overhead scanner and utilize several key library databases and software to digitize library materials.
· Tolerant of bright flash of scanner light and sound/pitch of document scanner.
· Visual acuity including color vision for scanning service.
· Ability to work in a cold storage unit where the climate is controlled at 50 degrees Fahrenheit and 38% humidity.
Physical Requirements:
· Constantly sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
· Frequently twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
· Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, writing by hand.
· Rarely use a telephone, kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), operate hand controls.
· Must be able to push and maneuver a fully-loaded cart weighing up to 650 pounds that requires initial push force up to 70 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $34.87 to $44.91 per hour.
