Basic Job Functions:

The Safety/Training Coordinator will be a leader in coordinating safety as a value connected with the passion that safety is our number one priority and there is never a compromise for safety, whether at work or at home throughout the division. The Safety Coordinator will be expected to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards always. They will be knowledgeable and participate in OSHA compliance, safety management system, workers’ compensation, ergonomic compliance, and perform field industrial hygiene monitoring when necessary. They will work with our team developing, designing, identifying, coordinating, and delivering divisional training, updating training records, and mapping out sustainability for our division. They will participate in and/or lead safety focus groups, industrial hygiene team, maintain safety/health/incident records, establish safety policies to promote team member safety at all levels, track, and report safety data, and use analytical tools to identify opportunities for improvement and work with our team to maintain our safety management system, programs, and compliance issues. They will interact with all division teammates to ensure plant understanding of and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. They will also assist with first responders, emergency response teams, audit and monitor contractor safety programs.  A strong dedication to continual improvement of personal, departmental, and Nucor objectives is essential to remain successful in this position. Effective communication with teammates, external instructors, Safety, the Ownership Teams, I.T., all departments, and other divisions will be vital for success.  This position may require you to be on call, work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.  Some travel may be required.Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements:

Associates degree in Occupational Safety and Health/Occupational Safety Management or related field and 2 years minimum experience in a safety position with managing and presenting safety training programs

2 years working knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI and other regulatory standards.

Preferences:

Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health

Industrial Hygienist

Equipment operation experience (overhead crane, forklift, hydraulics, electrical, etc.)

Paramedic/EMT

Completed OSHA 511 and 501 courses.

Experience with safety management systems and/or OSHA VPP.
