Job Summary: Assist Safety Team with project specific Safety Plan generation in alignment with the F.D. Thomas, Inc. Safety and Health program. Review Site-Specific Safety Plans with field supervision before dispatch and implementation. Visit sites, as directed by the Branch Manager, conduct safety audits to ensure the FDT safety program is implemented and in place, per pre-dispatch review. Reinforce the "Good Catch, Good Save" and "Stop Work Authority" programs. Safety train field personnel and perform safety related testing and monitoring as directed. This position reports directly to the Corporate EHS Director with indirect reporting and day-to-day supervision by the Eastern US Branch Manager. The EHS Technician will work closely day-to-day with the Branch Manager, Project Management, Superintendents, and Project Leaders. This position involves travel to Eastern US Branch local and outlying projects to carry out job responsibilities such as MD, VA, DC, FL, GA, and other states as assigned. Essential Job Functions: **Planning, and administration of site-specific safety plans, including but not limited to:** + Respiratory Protection + Fall Protection + Lead Paint Removal + Confined Spaces + Hazardous Communication + Lock out/Tag out + Monitor & enforce safety compliance on assigned projects + Schedule, collect and monitor IH samples + Accident and incident investigations + Site safety audits and corrective action recommendations + Calibration of safety equipment + Safety Hotline/Troubleshoot + Carry and periodically provide PPE, minor safety equipment, etc., if needed Job Responsibilities: + Support field leadership and operations in matters regarding safety + Anticipate, Recognize, Evaluate, and Mitigate Safety & Health issues at project sites + Provide field personnel with timely regulatory interpretation of safety requirements and issues + Evaluate Site Hazards and develop JSA and Task Specific Lift and Fall Protection Plans + Conduct and Participate in daily & weekly toolbox and safety meetings when on-site + Provide mentoring to field personnel regarding safety & health + Accident and incident investigation & reporting + Immediate correction of any unsafe condition; document and advise proper chain of command + Ensure appropriate follow-through for any safety related infraction + Aid in correcting any safety deficiency + Maintain a system for reporting, monitoring and correcting all safety problems. Document all issues, corrective actions taken, and provide daily site visitation reports to the Safety Department for filing + Assists in preparing safety policies and procedures; ensure implementation in the field + Participate in and advise the Corporate EHS Director in Eastern US EHS matters and maintain close communication with Eastern Branch administration in matters of safety requiring management action + Perform jobsite inspections for any conditions that pose potential safety problems. Document all inspections. + Provide documented corrective action recommendations regarding safety + Perform site sample collection and follow through with ensuring the results get to the CIH + Enforce Safety requirements and provide disciplinary action recommendations as needed + Assist the Corporate EHS Director and Eastern Branch Manager with establishing and maintaining an effective Safety & Health Program + Perform Safety & Health Assessments of work activities + Assist management with Safety & Health Compliance concerns + Evaluate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Systems for adequacy + Participate in maintaining Employee Safety & Health Records in Vista + Provide support to Corporate EHS as directed by the Corporate EHS Director and Eastern Branch Manager **Key Skills** + Basic understanding of the fundamentals in painting, waterproofing, roofing and concrete restoration are a plus + Knowledge in the theory and practical skills of industrial hygiene for collecting samples pertaining to airborne hazards such as dusts, mists, vapors, etc. + A working knowledge of state and federal OSHA regulations as they relate to our industry + Good computer skills, Proficient in Microsoft word, excel and power point + Natural ability to collaborate well with others across the organization + Strong analytical and organizational skills, and attention to detail + Outstanding work ethic, ability to perform under pressure, meet deadlines, ability to prioritize and deliver multiple tasks on time + Excellent verbal and written communication skills + Good problem-solving skills, intellectual maturity, and relationship management skills + A team player approach to performing assigned duties **Education & Experience** + 5 years of experience in the Industrial Construction Setting. Will consider less experience if you've completed an internship and/or externship coupled with a degree in a safety related area. + Applicable College, Safety, or Trade School records of completion + Must have a working knowledge of OSHA regulations for the construction industry **Safety Certifications:** + OSHA 30 (minimally) - or able to obtain within 90 days of employment + OSHA 500 (preferred) + CSP or other Safety entity certification (ideal) **Travel** + Travel to various projects throughout the area several days a week with most of the time spent visiting projects from the Eastern Branch Office. Possible overnight travel to other areas, generally less than 20%.
