Semper Solaris, a leading solar company located in San Diego, CA, is actively seeking a rockstar Safety Specialist to join our team based in San Diego, CA. This crucial role entails overseeing safety protocols on residential construction sites and demands a comprehensive understanding of Cal/OSHA regulations.

 

Position Summary 

The Safety Specialist, under the supervision of the Benefits Manager, is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive safety program that results in an excellent safety track record, including Cal/OSHA and federal OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) compliance. 

 

The Safety Specialist is required to perform job duties inclusive of but not limited to the following: 

Develop and execute a comprehensive and well-organized safety program that is data driven, well documented and collaborative.  Conduct frequent safety audits across job sites, ensuring strict adherence to our goals, including Cal/OSHA and federal OSHA regulations.  Perform post-accident and injury investigations to identify root causes and opportunities for improvement and implement improvement strategies.  Create and maintain a formal and reliable feedback loop with internal customers to share results and develop new ideas to achieve our safety goals.  Maintain stock of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including Fall Protection Harnesses, Safety glasses/goggles, gloves, etc., distribute to employees and re-order as needed.  Foster a safety culture by building relationships and collaborating across diverse sectors, including Operations, Corporate, Sales, Solar, Roofing, and HVAC.  Liaise with the HR department and other Workers Comp point of contacts as needed.  Provide and develop regular and accurate safety reporting for the safety department and internal customers.  Stay current and up to date with OSHA and other regulatory safety guidelines and requirements.  Ability to travel throughout California frequently.  Performs other duties as assigned 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities  

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a subject matter expert for other positions in the organization.  Accomplishes department objectives and implements and enforces departmental systems, policies, and procedures. 

 

Required Skills / Abilities 

In-depth knowledge and understanding of Cal/OSHA regulations and guidelines applicable to roofing, solar, and HVAC  Ability to develop and implement safety policies and trainings  Excellent verbal and written communication skills  Strong organizational skills  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent/related software. High computer literacy-experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Office 365  Ability to foster teamwork and collaborate with multiple departments  Exhibits unquestionable integrity and work ethic  Possession of a valid California driver license with the ability to frequently travel throughout California required  Working Knowledge of Workers Comp Act a plus 

 

Education and Experience 

Required:  

Minimum of 2 years' safety experience in construction with an emphasis on roofing and electrical  Minimum of 2 years' experience in Solar, roofing, and or HVAC industries  Minimum OSHA 30 required 

 

Preferred: 

Associate’s or bachelor’s in environmental health and safety, occupational safety and health, engineering or related field  NFPA70-E for electrical, and/or OSHA 500  CHST (Construction health and safety technician), ASP/CSP (Associate safety professional and certified safety professional)   Previous working experience as a construction laborer or Solar laborer   Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required

 

Pay Rate: $78k - $80k annually Depending on Experience

 

Physical Requirements 

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards  Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer  Ability to stand for extended periods of time  Ability to use the computer, mouse, and type regularly  Must be able to climb ladders, stairs, and work from heights   Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
