POSITION SUMMARY:

The Safety Specialist facilitates, coordinates, and maintains H&S programs that adhere to regulatory requirements and BrassCraft polices in addition to having a positive effect to the company’s H&S programs. This position would also support in emergency response situations when they arise and will support H&S operations and staff to foster a zero-tolerance culture and ensure compliance.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Makes safety the number one priority by leading by example, addressing unsafe conditions & behaviors, and supporting safety improvement initiativesSupports continuous improvement by participating in events and submitting opportunities for improvementsCollaborates with management to facilitate, prepare, and support in implementing H&S policies and procedures.Coordinates the H&S programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.Evaluates the continuing suitability and effectiveness of the H&S programs.Support current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.Provide recommendations for improvements and additions to the environmental H&S management program including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.Implement program that stops operations and activities that could harm staff or pose equipment H&S issuesIdentifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.Shares H&S information within the appropriate levels of the organization.Supports compliance reporting as required by BMC.Facilitates training programs educating staff on H&S risks found in the organization.Ensures that training records, incident/accident reports, or other documentation are appropriately maintained.Coordinates and recommends the purchasing and distribution of personal protection equipment or other related supplies.Supports and monitors on annual target rates for Lost Time, Recordable, Severity, and Environmental KPI’sSupports in managing strategies to prevent workplace injuriesPerform risk assessments, JHSA and assist in the implementation of effective physical and/or behavioral control measures. Recognize and verify the effectiveness of in-place control measuresIdentify unsafe equipment operation and conditions while demonstrating knowledge of appropriate corrective action for unsafe conditions or equipment useExercise coordination, and communication role within the location to drive continuous EHS improvement across the locationFacilitates and works within cross functional teams to conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates degree in Engineering / Environmental Sciences or equivalent in H&S experienceMinimum 2 years experience in safety focused role Familiarity with OSHA standard, required training, developing, and maintaining safety committee functions and driving safety culture on the floor. Safety Management experience in a related industry

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

OSHA 30 certification would be a plusEMS ISO 14001 experience

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspection
