Job Summary: The Conductor has overall responsibility for the safety of Grand Canyon Railway passengers, crew and equipment as well as the overall efficient operation of the assigned passenger trains, work trains, or special event trains while professionally representing the company to passengers and to the public. The Details: Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Pay: $23.85 Hourly Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays) Life at the Grand Canyon Railway: No employee housing available. Responsibilities Responsibilities: Fully understand and support Xanterra Mission Statement and Core Values. Completes responsibilities in a manner that will ensure the safety of passengers, employees and the general public at efficient cost to the company. Oversees qualifying and maintaining locomotive Engineer part 240 and Conductor part 242 certification. Maintains flexibility to work scheduled days, evenings, weekends and holidays, with the possibility of overtime as required (with or without advance notice). Understands fully, steam boiler principles, mechanical operations of engines, electrical and brake systems. Recognizes and interpret audible, visual and olfactory conditions, signals and warnings. Ability to distinguish colors, signals, or signs from a distance and at night or in poor lighting conditions. Communicates effectively and intelligently (train announcements, reports, written items, face-to-face, telephonically and over the radio) with the general public, passengers, potential passengers, business associates, and company employees to work effectively with others. Other duties and tasks as assigned. Qualifications Qualifications: Must possess a valid and clear Arizona Driver’s License and comply with GCR Special Instructions and the Xanterra/GCR Vehicle Policy. Must possess a conductor certification or the ability to obtain a conductor certification within 60 days. 1 year of previous railway experience, in train operations. Physical Requirements include: Heavy work, lifting and pulling up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to70 pounds on a rare basis. Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis. Walking long distances over uneven terrain, have the ability to walk 1 mile with in 25 minutes. Must meet auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection thresholds. Exposure to equipment that intensifies the heat factor on an occasional basis. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
