Job Description

Performs triage by greeting patients of all ages, measuring and recoding vital signs, and constitutional information from the patient

Records chief complaints

Prepares patient medical records according to clinic / hospital policy and documents allergies (both drug and latex) in Athena

Provides assistance to the health care provider with urological examinations/procedures or minor surgery, including patient xrays.  Provides assistance to provider for examinations and chemotherapy treatments.

Administers appropriate treatment to all patients assigned to him/her keeping within the established standards of care for urology care nurse in a manner that is indicative of a genuine caring attitude and is in line with the clinic standard of care with the guidance of the physician during clinic sessions.

Document patient medications or treatments given in the chart and database in keeping with established department procedures and in a manner that demonstrates a good understanding of the importance of the medical record as a legal and financial document.

Demonstrates applicable knowledge of urology products and equipment used in the care of patients

Able to manage a number of patients at the same time with high energy and organization

Demonstrates ability to prioritize workflow to allow for the most efficient way of seeing patients

Performs lab controls as required and performs proficiency testing (if applicable). 

Executes laboratory tests and venipuncture according to policies set forth by the clinic and as specified by the health care provider(s), prepares lab specimens for transport to the lab, completes lab forms in entirety, logs in-house lab test performed as well as outside lab tests performed. 

Retrieves reports promptly when required, delivers lab reports to ordering provider, notifies the provider promptly of any panic values.

Will become Chemo certified within 2 months of hire date.

Performs all treatments and Urodynamic testing. Will perform chemotherapy treatments.

Secures, checks and documents the use of DEA controlled drugs according to SEH policy.

Maintains logs for narcotics counts at the beginning and ending of each shift as well as sample logs.
