Positions Summary: The RN Supervisor is responsible for the overall management of the facility for the morning or night shift. This responsibility includes staff management and the quality of resident care and services. Responsibilities also include staff assignments, planning, direct care and communication with families and physicians.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides leadership and direction for the delivery of nursing care by Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Nursing Assistants for their assigned shift. Demonstrates the ability to utilize effective communications in interpersonal techniques/strategies with healthcare team members in dealing with issues concerning staff performance, patient care and family concerns. Ensures compliance with applicable State and Federal standards and regulations for long-term care and initiates action plans to correct deficiencies in advance of the annual inspections by the PA Dept of Health. Ensures that individual care plans are instituted and updated according to regulatory requirements through observation and report from charge nurse. Develops CNA work assignments and staffing schedules to ensure staffing levels are adequate to provide a high level of care. Effectively collaborates with medical staff as needed. Develops preliminary and comprehensive assessments as well as written care plans. Effectively confronts healthcare team members with issues concerning resident care and family concerns and offers constructive alternatives to affect positive outcomes and resolutions. Maintains continuity of nursing care during shift transitions, receives and provides reports (both verbal and written) to nursing staff and management. Appropriately delegates and assigns direct and indirect resident care activities to staff. Appropriately revises assignments based on changes in resident census, acuity, and available resources.


Qualifications: EDUCATION AND/ OR EXPERIENCE 3-5 years’ experience in Long Term Care required. 1-3 years previous supervisory experience in long term care preferred. Knowledge of clinical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to long term care. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, governmental agencies and then general public. Must be able to effectively communicate with older adults in a manner that conveys warmth and professionalism. LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION RN with current active license in Virginia.
