The Medical Emergency Team (MET) RN (Registered Nurse) Specialist will develop, implement, and evaluate processes and systems for providing a proactive approach to nursing care and patient management to improve patient outcomes, reduce non-ICU medical emergencies and decrease ICU (Intensive Care Unit) transfers.
This approach will include proactive rounding on the inpatient units, obtaining input from the bedside RNs to identify acute patient issues or problems, communicating the acute changes to providers to plan and implement interventions using a collaborative approach.
Your primary duties will include but are not limited to:
Providing emergency response to patients and facilitating care until a patient is stable or transported to a higher level of care in collaboration with the MET team (APP and RT).
Supporting the critical response and resuscitation committee (CRRC) with analysis of data, review of clinical cases, and presentation at regular reviews.
Leading the implementation of process improvements and support education training for the clinical caregivers based on analysis of identified through the rounding and quality review process

**Job Responsibilities:**
+ Develop processes and systems for identifying patients requiring critical assessment and intervention
+ Implement action plans identified through analysis of data and case reviews
+ Participate as a CRRC member/leader: perform entry of cases into the quality data review tool, nursing review of events prior to an emergency event or code and presentation of cases to CRRC meetings.
+ Analyze and remain current with evidence based practice and recommend adoption or standards in collaboration with the team
+ Ensure Compliance with Regulatory Agencies
+ Provide education and training for nursing staff related to code response roles (i.e. documentation on emergency response form code sheet, operation of the zoll defibrillator and monitor, nursing role in a code or emergency)
+ Collaborate with nursing professional development to provide mock codes and simulation for nursing staff
+ Serves as a resource/support to nursing staff, providers, patients, families and other departments.
+ Review patient lists and tools in the electronic medical record to prioritize assessment and intervention for high risk patients
+ Rounds on all inpatient units to discuss patients being followed by MET or those with newly identified clinical issues that could lead to further deterioration.
+ Work with primary nurse on acute patient issues; Provide coaching, education and support in real time in assessment, intervention, planning and evaluation for primary nurse delivering patient care
+ Address acute issues as they arise and activate full MET/Rapid Response Team when needed
+ Follow up with primary nurses on acute patient issues; work with primary team to address issues along-side the primary nurse; notify the entire MET/Rapid Response team for further evaluation and intervention
+ Respond to rapid response and code blue calls; provides critical care nursing until patient is stable or transferred to higher level of care.
+ Follow-up on rapid response patients that remain on the floor to assure ongoing stability.
+ Support patients with vascular access (ultrasound guided IV placement) and assist with procedures as able
+ Clinical integration of BLS/ACLS Physician Training
+ Other duties as assigned.
+ Follows Hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
+ Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
**Education:**
+ BSN required.
**Certifications:**
+ Current licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Ohio.
+ BLS and ACLS required.
+ NIHSS certification required.
+ National certification in critical care nursing preferred.
**Complexity of Work:**
+ Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
+ Simulation, orientation with other MET RN Specialists.
**Work Experience:**
+ Three years of nursing practice in a complex critical care environment.
**Physical Requirements:**
+ Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
+ Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
+ Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
+ Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
+ Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
