RN Float II

Position Summary

Provides quality nursing care through the application of the nursing process using evidence based practice focusing on excellent outcomes and patient experience within the framework of Shared Governance. Float Nurse II will have skills and competencies for medical surgical and critical care nursing. He/she will be assigned by nursing supervisor to any of the above units for patient assignment.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Required:

All hires after July 2012 are required to have a Bachelor's Degree in nursing OR if Associates Degree or Diploma, RN must provide proof of enrollment in a BSN program prior to hire, be continuously enrolled and complete within 5 years of hire date or internal RN promotion date.


Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):

Required:

2 or more years RN experience preferably acute care experience 
Inpatient Float RN II requires med surge experience and critical care experience. 
If no critical care experience, must orient to critical care upon hire.


License, Registry or Certification:

Required:

Current NJ RN licensure
American Heart Association CPR certification
ACLS
Telemetry course/experience
CPI training is required and must be renewed annually
Must obtain CPI certification within 6 months of hire/transfer
Ventilator
Cardiac drip experience or course upon hire

Preferred:

Certification in specialty


Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

Required:

Must pass annual clinical competency based program and mandated in-service education on both med surg and critical care units. Unit specific skills may include but not limited to IV therapy, arrhythmia interpretation, ventilator, critical care, cardiac drips, conscious sedation, Bi-Pap/CPAP and EndTidal CO2. Skills will be determined by a challenge exam and/or skill performance or by completion of a Staff Development course.

Procedure Float requires telemetry experience


Must be cross trained by specialty: Medical Surgical, Critical Care
-Unit RN float requires cross training for medical/surgical unit, surgical unit, intermediate care unit, cardiac unit, emergency department, pediatrics, maternity and child care center (MNCC) and critical riate patient assignment based on cross training completion.
-Procedure Unit RN float requires cross training for Radiology/Interventional Radiology, Cardiac Cath Lab Procedure Care Unit, Endoscopy pre and post procedure care.
