RN, Diagnostics  
Varies, As Needed

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Ancillary Services coordinates comprehensive professional nursing care to patients of all ages, gender and cultures; working collaboratively with providers and multidisciplinary team members in maintaining standards for professional nurse practice in a diagnostics clinic setting.  The RN will prepare patients and perform cardiac stress testing (i.e.; Regadenosine, cardiac treadmills treadmill stress echos, Holter monitors and ankle brahcial index exams) and other diagnostic related services.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the standards, policies and procedure of the medical center, Nursing Services and Chapter Six of the Code of Iowa. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner by utilization of pre-determined standards and evidenced-based practices that define the structure, process and desired patient outcomes. Prepares charts and patients for appropriate testing and care of patients (i.e.; Regadenosine, Dobutamine, cardiac scans, recordings and treadmills) and other diagnostic testing such as Cardiac Holter Monitors. Assists with the ordering and stocking of supplies. Serves as a patient advocate, resource and contact person for patients and staff. Provides basic education information to patients and family, focusing on self-care appropriate to their age and identified learning considerations and needs. Performs assessment data collection and document subjective data during testing and objective data (vital signs and weight) for the patient’s record.  Reviews basic health history information for patients. Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly following organizational standards and monitors effectiveness.  Demonstrates an ability to perform effectively and professionally during peak periods of activity and emergency situations. Participates in training, orientation, credentialing and education of new employees. Performs all clerical duties as needed to maintain a harmonious patient care environment. Maintains economical and efficient nursing care in a clean and safe environment. Participates in development and implementation of performance improvement activities. Participates in the development and revision of policies, and procedures. Participates in clinic meetings and conferences, and development of strategies for improving the clinics and patient care. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor/designee.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Promotes nursing practices and patient care that is effective in terms of quality and cost, and results in patient and family satisfaction. Supports the values and philosophy of BMC Nursing Services as well as the mission, vision and values and behaviors of service excellence standards of BMC. Maintains compliance with HIPAA/confidentiality standards at all times. Demonstrates commitment to own professional growth and competence. Completes and maintains unit specific training and competency monitors (with passing scores) in unit-defined time frames in order to maintain employment.  Completes all annual hospital-wide mandatory training within defined timeframe (i.e. safety, corporate compliance, confidentiality). Documents in a timely, accurate and concise manner. Demonstrates competence in specified computer applications. Demonstrates ability to document in EMR. Demonstrates consistently a team approach to care. Demonstrates effective communication strategies. Adheres to all policies and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Current RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing.  Knowledge of nursing care in accordance with regulations and practices established by the Iowa Board of Nursing. Successful demonstration of competence in Basic Life Support (Health Care Provider) and ACLS. Consistently demonstrates a team approach to care and effective communication strategies. One year cardiac work-related experience or equivalent in Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Unit or Emergency Department. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bilingual Certification in area of specialty. BSN Cardiac clinic and treadmill stress testing.
