Job Description Summary:
Responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of age specific patient care designed to provide quality nursing care in the Emergency Room.Under the general supervision of the Head Nurse, responsible for providing total patient care, addressing age specific patient needs, as well as directing other nursing employees as required. Acts as Charge Nurse on assigned shift as scheduled. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs initial patient assessment; develops plan of care according to age specific needs; implements plan of care, updating as necessary and conferring with other members of the health care team; evaluates care given. Documents initial assessment, delivery of patient care, and other pertinent information on ED flow sheet and/or nurses' progress notes. Monitors charting of other personnel as required. Performs total bedside care of patients; performs or assists with skilled procedures such as sterile dressings, etc. Administers or supervises administration of scheduled and prn medications, intravenous fluids, blood and blood components. Informs physician of patient's general condition, any pertinent physical and emotional findings; assists the physician with treatments or examinations as needed. In absence of the Head Nurse or when designated, performs as the charge nurse in directing safe patient care. Verifies physician's orders and initiates and performs or supervises the completion of care. Communicates with patient and his/her family providing emotional support and pertinent teaching related to the immediate post anesthesia phase; notifies appropriate personnel. Checks emergency equipment and drugs on unit each shift. Accurately obtains charges for patient care administered and supplies used in ED. Assumes responsibility for continued occupational growth, department specific. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

Completion of an associate of nursing degree or a RN diploma programLICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the State of Tennessee. BLS required for all RNsACLS required for all RNsPALS required for all RNsEXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of policies and procedures of the hospital and completion of skills check sheet for ED as acquired through 3 months probationary period. Previous experience Critical Care Nursing desirable.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
