Responsibilities Specific to Position + Ensures that correct standards are being met for all patients and to supervises the work of the assigned personnel + Supervises workflow and coordinates/facilitates movements of patients from admission to discharge or transfer to the floor + Analyze workload of unit to determine the number of employees needed to ensure adequate staffing, determines the need to bring in on-call teams + Maintain responsibility for directing, planning, and scheduling work of others during assigned shift + Coordinate patient transfers, admissions, and discharges + Make room assignments and collaborates with Anesthesia and others on the team to rearrange procedure order, open, and close rooms as needed + Adjust workloads to meet the needs of the patients + Consult with and keep the Nurse Manager and Anesthesia informed of all unit activities, needs, and problems + Make immediate administrative decisions as necessary in the absence of the Nurse Manager + Collaborate with the Nurse Manager and Educator to make recommendations for transfers, promotions, and the identification of areas requiring staff development + Assist with maintaining an orientation system specific to unit needs + Complete evaluations of unit personnel as directed + Initiate and document counseling activities independently and as directed + Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with the off-tour supervisor to foster problem-solving activities + Monitor department to ensure complete compliance with established nursing, department, unit, and hospital policies and procedures as well as objectives regarding quality assurance, safety, and environmental and infection control; interpret these policies, procedures, and objectives to subordinate personnel, patients, medical staff, and the public as appropriate + Document and submit follow-up of problem solving to the Nurse Manager involving patient complaints related to nursing activities, serious medication errors, and patient incidents Supervisory Responsibilities Reports to: Nurse Manager/Director Supervises: Weekend Staff Education and Experience Minimum Education: Successful completion of a Registered Nursing program Education: BSN, Certification preferred Experience: 2+ years as an RN in an Operating Room setting Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Applicant must be licensed to work as a RN in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Additionally, the applicant must hold and maintain a BLS certification; preferred candidates will have an ACLS certification.
