Rigger-Helper
Overview Responsible for assisting in the assembly and disassembly of cranes and setting up rigging for wind projects. In addition, Rigger-Helpers may be assigned other tasks as needed during construction of wind projects including any foundation, offload, assembly, and quality control of Wind Turbines along with routine site maintenance. Responsibilities Promote and comply with all Company and safety policies and procedures Complete all required Safety documentation Climb on crane boom daily and perform activities required to assemble/disassemble cranes Use taglines to control suspended loads during assembly/disassembly of cranes and wind turbine components Align, level and anchor machinery Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads in order to ensure safety of workers and materials Act as a spotter to ensure safety of crew and protection of equipment Position, join, align, and connect crane boom sections, tracks, and other components as needed Mop, brush or spread bituminous compounds or paint over surfaces for protection Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use Manipulate rigging lines, hoist, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability Perform tasks involving use of hands and tools such as torquing/tensioning bolts and studs, assembling metal parts, sawing lumber, cleanup, etc. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Education and Work Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent preferred One to three months related experience preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward Wanzek’s Zero Injury principles Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, and procedure manuals Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Ability to understand units of force, pressure and torque and apply appropriate tooling adjustments for each Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form Be able to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards Basic knowledge of rigging techniques Working Environment: Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and extreme heat Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration Noise level in the work environment is usually loud
