A rigger assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant or shipyard, selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved, attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceiling, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps, attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, to crane hook, gives directions to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, loudspeaker, telephone, or radio. The rigger also sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power winches, splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle; and may direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment into ships. Performs other duties as assigned.

Two years of rigging experience in support of both mobile and fixed cranes Must demonstrate the ability to calculate weights of loads using the riggers handbook. Must be able to work at heights exceeding 100 feet on cranes, platforms, rails, or lifts. Must possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license. Must possess a valid state driver's license. Must have and wear hard-toed safety shoes which meets ASTM F2413-05 standards when entering industrial areas. Successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet eligibility requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.Physical Requirements
